You know how it is, you see an article or tip someplace and know someday you’ll need it but when you look for it you can’t find it…
I am currently working on a 1/48 Hasegawa F-15E. The canopy has a nasty seam running right down the center of it. I generally stay as far away from clear part issues as possible but this one, I can’t ignore. So who can either tell me or point me in the direction for where I can look on how to fix this type of issue. Your help would be greatly apprecicated.
I was thinking of starting with some 600 wet sanding and progressing up to some 1500, then moving to some polishing compounds and finally dipping it in Future. But let’s just say I need some reassurance before I start something like this…
I would say you can consider yourself reassured as that should do very nicely.
You can also use one of the sanding sticks used by manicurists that have 4 different surfaces on one stick, or sometimes it is a set of 3 or 4 different sticks. Run through the different levels and the last should give you a pretty good polish… followed with a Future dip and you’re good to go.
I have bought a watchmakers Micro Mesh kit from E-bay for about £10, it has 6 grades of cloths from 600 - 12000 and a small bottle of compound along with a polishing cloth, works great for clear parts and normal seam finishing.
