Removing Paint From Resin Parts

I’m currently participating in the F-14 group build, and have a Black Box cockpit set for my F-14. I have most of the parts painted, and have begun the fine detailing. I’m not pleased with how a couple of parts look, and would like to remove all the paint and start over.

I painted the overall interior dark gull grey, Testors Model Master enamels thinned with some lacquer thinner. The black instruments and panels are Tamiya acrylics. I then gloss coated everything w/ Krylon spray clear, out of a can.

How can I remove the paints from these resin parts. Do resin parts stand up to enamel or lacquer thinner?

Any and all help will be much appreciated.

Do not use thinner to clean it with

Two ways work…depending on the paint…

A dishwasher tablet in warm water…NOT HOT :)…leave overnight
or
Spray on oven cleaner will also do…but always test first. (that said I have never had a problem)…no need with the dishwasher tabs…they do not attack resins

Try whatever you use on a spare piece of resin first, some stuff that is good for plastic will wreak havoc on resin or vinyl parts.

If you primed the part you should be ok, as a lot of stuff that will strip paints won’t touch primer as easily.

Thanks. Looks like a fair amount of trouble, I think I’ll leave “good enough” alone.

Her is another thing you can try, works best if the paint is not too old.

Soak a rag with thinner(used to thin the paint) and wipe the part down, for hard to reach areas use a toothbrush soaked in the same thinner.

what about normal plastic kits, how can i remove paint from them?does oven cleaner work. I read someones post that brake fluid would work.

There are a variety of common chemicals and stuff that will work.

Even with recommended stuff I would suggest to try it first on a piece of spare plastic.
Check the archives the topic gets covered every few days.
