What is the best way to remove decals without damaging the underlying paint?
Can I just wet them well and work on them with a soft paint brush from the edges or is there an easier way? My bottle of Micro Set says that you can remove decals with it. Does it work very well? [%-)]
I just had to remove the decals from my Avenger. I used Scotch “Magic” (frosty) tape. I pressed it over the decal, and pulled it off, removing the decal. It worked well, and left the underlying Future untouched. I had to burnish in a couple of places, but it was easy and clean. Micro Sol will probably remove the decal, but it may also create a mess.
[#ditto] on the Scotch Magic tape. It works well unless you have topcoated the decals with Future or a flat. I’ve done it more times than I care to admit, but only on enamel paint with a Future top-coat. If you used acrylic, the tape may pull up some paint as it is very aggressive. Good Luck, and glad to hear Meteor came through for ya.
I tried the Scotch tape and it worked very well.
It did leave a few spots here and there that I am having to rub with water and a Q-tip along with a little help from my fingernail to get them off, but it did not affect the Future or the acrylic paint itself. [tup]
I was just ready to find out how to do just what Mike wanted as to remove some decals. The answer was here before I even asked the question. What a great forum this FSM has.
This is a big help for me too. I have just been uding a knive and trying to scratch off the decals. It works good but sometimes it takes some of the paint off as well.
