Removing a super glue oops

Ok…continental drift is more perceptible than my progress on my 1/350 Fletcher…

…but I’m still plugging away. My latest ‘oops’ was using super glue to attach some railing. Unfortunately, my fat fingers also got glued. [:(] When I got my finger off, there was a nice chunk of skin left.

In another related incident, I seem to have gotten a little happy with the super glue and it covered some fine detail railing.

So…in both cases, how would you remove the super glue (and consequently a bit of my finger)?? Would a de-bonder work? If so, recommendations?

oh yah…its actually the Zap glue, not “super-glue”.

Thanks…

As a returning modeller…

Debonder is your friend. I’ve used it to unglue my fingers, dissolve both CA and regular glue from parts that I glued in… upside down (never model at 2AM on a Sunday morning…)

The stuff I have is Z-7 Debonder which is made by Zap I think. It’s in a white bottle with green lettering. I use an old brush (from the Testors paint kits) to work in. After a short time (usually 30 seconds or so) I was able to use all my fingers independently and slowly work out my upside down piece.

The bottle applicator is very similar to eyedrops/contact lens cleaner/etc so it can get into really small areas. It doesn’t leave any residue behind on non affected parts, and flows with the consistency between the super thin and medium viscosity CA glues.

I had cause to remove some myself the other day.

Acetone as used in nail polish remover is quite effective.

Here’s a link that gives more information.

Useful information.

Excellent suggestions. I will try both. [:D] i have an order for supplies going in so I’ll include the Zap debonder…and…as its the day off and grocery shopping needs to be done…ah…the life of a bachelor…[;)]…i’ll check out the nail polish remover…making sure it has acetone as per the link. [:D]

the open windows and fresh air…i feel like modeling again. [:)]
