Rekindling the Hobby: Model Kits I've Had Stored For 20 Years

I recently returned from a trip to see my folks. I packed up and shipped back a few plastic model kits I had as a kid and never finished. Several have not been started and still sit in their plastic bags (Lamborghini 500, RF-4 Phantom II, F-5A, F102, and the F105D). The others are all in some state of assembly.

Need advice on how to remove the scotch tape residue left on my A-6E Intruder. The kit has been taped together for probably 15 years and is very tacky with all the adhesive residue. Is there a safe way to remove without ruining the plastic?

Also my Porsche kit has some yellow stains on the body is there a way to remove this without completely repainting? Thanks for any advice you can offer. Look forward to finally finishing these after a couple of decades.

Try posting your question in the “Techiques” section of the “Tools, Techniques and Reference Materials” area. You should get some help there.

Welcome to the Forums [#welcome]. Can’t help on the yellow stain question, but the adhesive residue can be safely removed with a product called GooGone or trusty old lighter fluid.
