This is the fifth of the “Reich Defenders” group builds, which have been so popular over the years. This one is dedicated specifically to Nightfighters – the “Nachtjaeger” of the Luftwaffe designed to intercept allied bombers, especially those of the RAF in their relentless campaign of attrition that ground down German industry and morale.
Possible subjects include the specialist nightfighters, such as the Heinkel He-219 and Arado Ar-240, and nightfighter variants of dayfighters, such as the Bf 110, Fw 190 and Me 262. many were radar equipped, and many more were projected for production by late 1945, on into 1946, such as two-seat radar versions of the Do 335 and Ho 229.
Any nightfighter is eligible, built or projected, including bombers converted for night air to air work. If the Luftwaffe threw it at the night bombers, it counts!
This build launches officially on November 1st 2014 and closes October 31st 2015 – yes, these bats of the night end next Halloween!

Greta to see this up and running. I will be building the Dragon A-0 kit. I plan on doing the aircraft Werner Sreib flew on one of the 291’s first missions when he destroyed 5 Lancaster’s. Of course, I will be doing it before rather than after the sortie.
I will open the shrink rap today and get rolling on it. I am building the PM Me410 B-6/R-2 kit. Not sure of the details yet, but it will be OOB and perhaps a bit of scratch.
I am going to throw my hat in the ring here. The time line will allow me to do all my other stuff so i’m going to commit here but I will probably only start some time in the new year. I will be doing the Revell 1/48 Arado Ar 234 “Nachtigall”
Here’s the start of my MPM Fw 189A-1. I finished the center pod, now onto the booms and wings. The kit comes with it’s own PE and seems to go together pretty well. The kit also appears to have parts for the observation version, just not the decals or instructions. Notice the upward facing 20mm cannon through the greenhouse. I also added a little detail of cabling from the radar antenna to under the office floor.
I actually opened my kit and got started on it today. So far I have managed to read through the cockpit sections and determine what I need to do. I pulled all the parts off the sprues and sanded them all down and checked for fit and then I went over them and removed all the instrumentation I needed to so the PE will go down nice and tight. I managed also to get all the cockpit pieces painted, most in RLM66 and a few others in flat black. I will keep posting as I go along.

As for my Bf 110G-4, I have the kit and barrels. I went with the Master Model barrels. I have the Mk108. Still going to get the 20 mm barrels yet. Also the Master Model Fug220 antenna will be installed.
Still trying to figure out with markings I want to got with.
Does anyone know if the PD decals are any good? If so do they come with the camo diagrams.
I’ve had to stop the painting process until I get a tarp put up in the garage this weekend. I need a heated area now that winter has hit the Boise area. Plus I had to order RLM 66 which should be here Monday.
Model, You live in Boise? Dude, I live in Nampa !! Small world. And yes it’s cold and snowy and I have to warm up my garage a few hours before I spend 15 min painting in it. Painting at 23 F just isn’t that easy.
