Hey ho, me again. Just a quicky before the footy comes on. Heres where im at. Ive been masking the windows for what seems like weeks now. I think id be waiting till hell freezes over for Eduard or similar to make masks for this sucker Anyhoo, ive done it and using my fav method of blending bad fitting glass in (Superglue and Interior colour paint, separately of course) Its all faired and waiting to dry,
Ive also squirted the floats with Airframe ally ready for thier topcoat and subsequant weathering,
I also gave the engines a quick squirt of flat black and then a good drybrushing with some silver,
Thats it, footys about to start. More soon…Get your T shirts on. LOL.
Jeff and Guy- Looks like you two are flying along with your builds! Great work fellas. [^]
I have been working on my G-6 this weekend, and have the spinner inner colors sprayed, prop blades smoothed and filled, oil cooler scoop installed, and painted the tailwheel. I have been experimenting with the painted markings, and so far no joy. I have the squadron badges Aaron sent me, but I cannot get the rest of them to work.
I spent the better part of this evening trying to hunt down some RA Me-109G-6 markings, and have come up with nothing. Pacific Coast Models will no longer answer my emails regarding the Sky decals I tried to order a couple of months ago, and I tried Squadron, Sprue Bros, Flightdecs, Roll Models, Great Models, Ebay, Stormo, and some general Internet searches and found nothing.
Does anyone have an extra set of 1/48 Me-109G-6 RA markings? Not sure what to do at this point.
PERFECT! Just seeing that set showed me a G-6 I had not come across before. The decals in the kit Aaron sent me have two of the “365” codes and the unit badge, so I can cut those decals up to get the ones I need. Thank you very much, sure feels good to be back on track. Guy, you’re so cool- an ace and all. I wish I were your son. [^]
Guy- your tub toy is looking great [8-] Seriously though - Wow , [bow] I envy your skills. You are really making progree on this one. I Cant wait to whats next.
mucker - I solved that airal problem years ago, I just saw them off if they are molded on and attach them towards the end of the build. [oX)] Looking real good though [tup]
I seem to have naturally adopted the same procedure, only I break mine off inadvertantly at some time before the painting process! I just keep it aside and will re-attach near the end! You’d think I’d learn by now…
Looking sweet Charles. Any ideas on a paint scheme yet?
And what are you doing blaming your fat fingers? You should know on this GB, there is only one person to blame…Dave!!!
I bought model airplane international today, Sssh dont tell Kelly. In it was a great article and pics on the French Dewoitine D.520 in RA service. Ive fancied doing one of those for a while now and seeing them in RA service may have just solved my ‘What next’ Dilemma. Its Tamiya as well, so should go together fairly easily LOL. Supermodel is easy to build in an insanely frustrating way LOL.
I may post pics later, if your all lucky girls and boys…If i dont, you know who to blame.
Nice choice Your Highness. I used those decals on my CR.42. They are the biz. My only advice would be make sure that you use a brand new blade then you dont get a rough edge. Apart from that your golden.
Heres the colour profiles of the Dewoitine in the RA,
Hey Guy!!! I sent off those special made purplely -pink decals you wanted special made from Canada this AM! Put them in a regular Business envelope so keep an eye out! Chopped them up in the worse places to make them fit and just went ahead and used some of the pieces to seal the envelope. Figured what the heck? That strapping young fellow likes a challenge! [(-D]
Oh well Canadian decals Jeeze you know who must surely have a hand in this!
Looking good Charles! Sorry to see Dave caused that aerial to break. [;)]
Guy- I like those 520’s, very cool markings. [8D]
Aaron- You’re right! Those are the Devil’s Head markings. I was experimenting with painting the other markings for that bird, but was having difficulties getting them to work. Luckily, Guy found that Hannants set and now I can use the ones that came in the kit. I started painting spinners, and hope to have some more pics of them soon. [:D]
I was looking very closely at that CAM decals sheet on the Hannants site, and am trying to decide how to do a couple of things on my 109. I have found that reference photos on these birds are limited, and the great variety of colors/features makes it difficult to decide what to do with each one. I looked at the CAM decals site, but they do not show this sheet anywhere. “365-3” has a yellow chin cowl, but other places do not show this. Some G-'s in theater had the underwing 20mm gun gondolas, others did not. Some were G-6/Trops, some were not. So, any ideas on these features? Yellow chin or not, gun gondolas or not, and Trop filter or not? Decisions, decisions… [sigh]
Good question Frank. The way id look at it is this, none of the things you mentioned are permanent. (Paint, Gondola, Trop filter) All the planes in the Italian theatre were brought there from other theatres. If you building a general plane, it wouldnt have the yellow chin cowl. Wasnt that specific to the Russian front? Also the 20mm gondola’s wernt permanant so could be modelled with or without. Before or after they were attached. As for the tropical filter, id say no, for Italy. It hot as hell in the summer but there isnt any desert so to speak.
Hope im only telling you something you allready know and just want confirmation on.
Looking forward to seeing it though. The suspense is killing LOL.
Guy, the Cant float plane is looking great. [tup][tup] I love those markings for the De 520 too! [:P]
Charles, sorry bout the aerials but read my signature below!!!
Frank, Guy is on the right track (for once [;)]). Those aircraft would have been brought in from other places as they became available. Being a secondary theatre they would get the throw aways from the Russian front as theirs were replaced with more advanced fighters. Things like the yellow cowl (Russin theatre)would have been present until they got a chance to paint it over which in the heat of battle might have taken awhile. Other things would have varied too as they may have come from different units and different production times. Some of the tropical filters may have been leftovers from North Africa. This sort of gives you licence to do what you like unless you have reference photos of the specific aircraft you are doing. HTH!
I went to the LHS on my quest for a Dewoitine D.520. My search was for a Tamiya offering but no joy. So looking in his other sections (He has all kits by manufacturer) i found this little beauty. Has anyone heard of LTD Models? It seems to have a little bit of flash here and there but some nice fine recessed panel lines. The decals seem sweet and also it comes with 2 Vacformed canopies. The cockpit details look a little on the light side so i ordered the Eduard Zoom set for it, some QB exhausts and Resin wheels. Looks like fun.
Guy I got that kit ages ago when I could not find the Tamiya one as well. At the time it was only like $9 . The LTD brands are limited production runs made from low pressure injected plastic and have Vacuform canopies. I have actually built that one and their Boomerang kits and have been happy with both, A bit more figity than Tamiya but that 520 went together very well with no real firt issues that I can recall. The only issue I remember with it was the smaller # 6 decal should have been the same size as the other two larger ones but it was no biggy to me at that time. Lots of flash but not to tough to clean up. Landing gear and pit will be a little soft in detail for your taste I’m sure but I think they make nice kits.
Frank You have a lotta lee way with the 109. Let your imagination go wild! Wait that’s FRank! No telling what he’d do? Could be scary! With out a ref pic I’d just go standard G look. Accessorize to taste then bake at 350 degrees for 35 minutes. Remove foil and Brown in oven for another 5 minutes.
