Regia Aeronautica GB II (06/15/09 to 06/15/10)

here you go guy. I remember watching this show.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YWEfLRrdzvQ

Man, those are a pair of “front wedgies!”. My resident fashionista Miss Bondo tells me the correct terminology is “Camel Toe”!!! Things I learn!![oX)]

Oh the memories comes a flooding back LOL. Still think that we didnt have the Police woman show though. Im sure id have remembered [:-^]

I think that we British realised the quality of the show and got rid of it sold it to you Americans, soon as LOL.

Thk Mrs Bondo for the Camel Toe reference, I havent heard that one in a while and i must admit I laughed like a drain.

I may post an update of my CANTS dash later, you lucky lucky men LOL.

Sarge, still think were missing some Videos, Get on it soldier.

Guy, this video thing, what is it for?

Hi Roy, The video thing is just a laugh. Posted the same way as pics on photobucket. Have a look a couple of pages back. I got the idea after a trick was played on me by some mottley characters on here.

So go check and then post an epic!

…Guy

When was the last time someone posted a model here?[:-,]

Anyway, I must suck at biplanes because none of the reviews I’ve read say anything about having fit problems with the wing struts but I can’t seem to get any of them to fit. The angles of the ends of the struts seem to be wrong. Boy I love short run kits.

Hmmm HK If memory serves me. Both Guy and Soul Crusher have had fits with fit issues on the CA CR 42. I kinda figure your having more of the same with your CR 32. Some ways back I believe they even posted a way to get replacement struts. Hang in there If Guy can do it I bet my P-40 undies that you can too!

Pick on them! Also Guy posted some very slaughter house pic of a Cant that was being rescribed! I think the dentist used his tools on my teeth today though! Ouch! I feel Owie! Maybe I should take some painkillers? Probably not last time I did that I went bizerk here! Well more than normal… [:-^]

Ha I have been watching too much Beeny Hill! When I grow up I want to be just like him! Oh the things he did in 1971…

Hmmm oh yeah models you mean plastic ones? I got the really old and quality challenged Smer 1/48 Cr-32 and G-55 something the thing Dave made minus the torpedo. Hey it’s not the size of the bomb but how you use it.

Bondo would you believe I never noticed that about the Charlies Angel’s pic? Of course I don’t remember Angie Dickenson looking so fine either Roy? Dog gone puberty!

I never knew she was gone[BH]

Wow, but who’s the dude? Looks like Skipper form Gilligan’s Island.

YIKES!!! Mac is popping painkillers again, somebody watch him! Don’t want him playing with sharps while on those, lest he cut off something he’ll need. [:O]

Ahhh… Benny Hill. I loved watching that show. [;)]

Hi Shooter, bummer about the struts. As the drug Lord Macneal said, I made one a bit back. If you check the 1st page theres a linky to it. Its under the roster of builds. Yes they are Bas####s but if you get it right (I didnt), you get a stunner for your shelf hat not everyone has. Italieri did the CR. 42 and i imagine that one goes together a lot better.

As for my CANT, i was supposed to have an update for you but ive had a nightmare. I lost my wallet yesty and spent the best part of my day off running around trying to find the sucker. No joy yet, going up to me ma’s to look there. Its sooo annoying. I was planning on going to the LHS today but, no wallet, no reason…Booooooooo

As a little side note on Benny Hill. I was bought up with him on the telly. He lived his life as a semi-reclusive. Lived with his ma and had few friends. When he died (1994 ish) he was a multi millionaire. He was also related to this girl,

Thats Holly Valance, from Neighbours and dubious singing fame…ou can see the resemblence…Look closer…ooh yeah, look closer LOL.

…Guy

Right on with the CANT. As the wings are rescribed and the reference book has arrived, its time to hit the cockpit. My plan was just to add the RCR etched set and that was it. Thats the way i always start these things…With good intentions, but then i have to start throwing extras at it. My problem was the fact that the instructions on the RCR set were photocopied photocopies and they are pictures of the real deal with the etched parts numbers imposed over the real thing. Very very vague. Ah well.

The IP was nicely etched but didnt resemble the kit part at all

or come with a clear backing. So i placed the etched part over some sheet styrene and cut it to the right shape, I did this with all the IP’S (3),

After cutting to the right shape, i glued the etched part to the sty backing and sprayed the lot black,

then i parted the pieces (Only used Klear to glue them together) leaving some lovely black dial faces,

This was then easy to scratch needles and dials on. I reglued the etched part back on and used Tamiya clear in the faces, It looks a lot neater in the real world LOL.

Next up i needed to cover the recess for the wing join inside the cockpit on the R/H/S, (The L/H/S is covered by the Instrument consol) It is very visisible through the huge glass area. This was achieved again with sheet sty,

I then added a styrene bulkhead and some styrene ribs for the radio operators bay as im sure this would be visible as well (It damn well better be lol), I also have finished te etched seats and other gubbins,

Heres the pilot and navmans consol. It has about 12 pieces in it,

Ive still got a bit of wiring to do and a few other bits and bobs, then its paint time.

P.s, I found my wallet…Yey

I’d comment on your work but keep getting distracted by the girl! Kinda gives me a woozey feeling all over ! LOL!

Your nuts fellow detailing that 1/72 that way! I Cant… believe it! Har Har! PM to you Guy!

Guy - Thats just crazy ! Fantastic detail and Workmanship but crazy…[8-] Wow [tup] If you are going to keep doing stuff like this you should get you one of these . Its called the chopper and you can adjust the “fences” to different widths or angles and make dozens of same size strips in a matter of seconds.

The chopperThe single edgerazor blade is replaceable if needed. The fences are off to the sides to show the cutter and held in place with wingnuts.

What a great bunch of tips and ideas you just posted. [^][yeah]

Guy that is some great work on that instrument panel. Looks like you are making great progress.

Glad you found your wallet! Where was it?

Soulcrusher[oX)]

LOL, the wallet was in the car under the drivers seat. I blame Geri. Shes only 5" and im 6"1, so when i pushed the seat back (To drive) it covered the wallet. Dumbass…Oh yes.

…Guy

Never again. I will never build a Classic Airframes biplane again. Neat looking little airplane and I think it will look cool when it’s done but boy is it a bloody bugger to work on. The cabane struts are molded so poorly they aren’t even the same thickness. One is wafer thin, others are 2x4 thick. Take the fact that CA kits need more TLC and experience, there are no locating pins, there are generally fit problems with them, roll it up in a ball and toss it in a box with a BIPLANE kit and you have the makings for one big, Murphy infested FUBAR.

Which is what I have going on here. IF I ever lose my sanity and decide I want to build another biplane, period, let alone a CA produced one, I’m going to prepare by making sure I have plenty of airfoil shaped styrene in stock so I can make my own cabanes. It will take time but I’m positive I can make my own cabanes and have them fit and look better than what this kit provides.

Which is this.

Progress so far. I wonder how I’m going to paint the silly thing? Cleaning up all that smeared cyano is going to be a bear so NMF is probably out. Intricate camo will be next to impossible with the wing in place. Maybe I’ll just dip it in a bucket of lime green.

If I had a dime for everytime I said something similar. hk - I think you dis a great job from what I can see. Green Scotchbrite pads (pot scrubbers) work fantastic for cleaning up rouge C/A … One of the most challenging things about Bi-planes is figuring out the steps to painting and masking them. I try to limit myself to only a couple a year just for that reason [:-^]

Thanks Sean. Oh, I’ve got the pot scrubber thing figured out alright. Except mine came from Sherwin Williams and are used to sand drywall![}:)]

This is my second biplane so I’m sure some of my frustration could be my own fault. Still, there seems to be a few things that could be better in the kit. Consistant thickness of parts would help. I’m not sure if the problem with the struts is instruction sheet oriented or just lousey molds but only two of the eight cabanes came close to having the right shape on the ends. Not great but doable. The others? not even close. I sanded new shapes to them but that only made them shorter, and they were to short already. I wondered if there was supposed to be dihedral in the lower wing but the instructions don’t show any and none of the pics I have are very clear about it. If so, this could be the cause of the short strut problem.

I’ve said more nasty words tonight while working on this kit than I’ve said in the last year put together. Hard to enjoy the kit when that happens but later I’ll be able to laugh about it. I hope.

Guy, that is some pretty fancy footwork you’re doing on that interior. I’ve got some more tips to put in my tool bag now. Awesome!

Hk, The other fellows that worked on the CA Cr 42 had nothing good to say either. If you had been paying attention earlier in the GB… [:-^] Looks like you’re getting it sorted out though. Hopefully It will turn out well in the end.
