Regia Aeronautica GB II (06/15/09 to 06/15/10)

Aaron- pm returned…

Frank - No way [C):-)], I want to see what you do with a FM kit. WHat aircraft is it by the way ?

I cant believe that you guys have so many of these kits in your stash. I love German planes as you all know. This one and the He 115 were hi on my list. I have the 115 but have searched for this one for ages.

Even though, I was the one who introduced Aaron to this lovely beast, i think if theres one thats surplus to requirements, then its only right he should get 1st dibs. He has done me a great generocity in the past…Now if theres another going…

…Guy

I always thought I was of my rocker by having 200 plus kits in my extra closet. I am small time compared to you some off you guys and I do not even have a wife to answer to so I could go nuts if really wanted to. I do have plenty of rare and OOP kits in the stash but I usally stay away from the large kits just because there is just no place to put them when they are done. I do seem to have a passion for punishing myself by building mostly short run kits though. When I do buld a Tamagawa kit I am always amazed at how fast the build is completed. Guy hope you find one for yourself too buddy.

Soulcrusher[oX)]

Are you pointing a finger at Aaron ? [(-D] (just kidding)

SC I agree the collection has gotten a bit large at times. When I lived in Las Vegas I sold off 200 + automotive and truck kits. I kind of wish I would of kept the “Johan’s” looking back on it now. I was always a modeler from a young lad. Even if I was bouncing around with my work I would seek out Hobby Shops when traveling and buy a bunch of kits and ship them home for “that someday when I have time” . Then after I retired I went to work in a Hobby Shop on the weekends building and repairing R/C aircraft. I can not tell you what a gold mine that was. You would not believe the “Widows , Ex -Wife or Girlfriend” who would bring in a few models or tell about large stashes for sale very cheap or to take for free. The shop owner wanted nothing to do with the kits as he specialized in R/C planes. So I had dibs on the models. The kits are out there looking for new homes if you look. I always thought maybe someday I might start a small online model sales. But as of now I enjoy looking at them and searching out kits for friends in need.

Thanks for the kind words Sean! That build was special to me cuz it was the first I did on the forum and met most of these cheerful blokes and well Guy too.

Guy can you believe all the fuss about that BV 136 sumething? I think it would be cool to get one and do a paint scheme on it like a 1960’s hippie mobile with the flouresant yellow green and the flower power decals! It could fly around the Greatful Dead!

SoulCrusher! I like the bug uns! [:O][8D][:I]

In the words of Wayne, from Waynes world…ARE YOU MENTAL?

That would be sooooo sacrilidgous. And id cry like a big girly, even more so if i hadnt managed to get one by the time you flourodooperise one. LOL.

…Guy

Sean- It’s the Lockheed PV-1 Ventura, and it looks to be a beast of a kit! I get the shakes just opening the box. CURSE YOU McNEAL!!! [soapbox]

A little bit of progress today…

I added some styrene strip to the inside of the lower radiator flaps, as their absense in the kit was quite noticeable. Filled the sink marks in the flap sections too. Also installed the radiators, and closed up the wings. Very slow progress, as doing two at once slows a guy down.

DId you not learn a lesson from the Blue Twins ? [%-)] [;)]

Nope. [V]

Nice work Frank. Ill bet getting filler into those flaps was a chore LOL. I really looking forward to these two. You dont often see RA 109’s and im expecting great things. Are they both going to be RA? Or just one?

…Guy

Thanks Guy! Yep, the flaps have been a real chore. Luckily, the parts are relatively flat so a little filler and elbow grease takes care of it.

Only one (the G-6) is going to be in RA colors, the G-10 is for the Reich Defense GB. Just have to keep checking to make sure the right parts go on the right airframe. Otherwise, I may end up with a G-8 and a G-17. [%-)] LOL…

Now the G-8 and G-17 would be cool. They were the only 109’s equiped with the patented guadalupe style methane booster. This enable pilots who had eaten too much snitzel and beer to add power boost to their aircraft. [yuck] Great work Frank those look better than the PE Ive played with! Excellent! [bow]

Frank - do you use a “Chopper” ?

The chopper

Sean do you use that thing for cutting styrene sheets. What thickness can you go?

Got some time in on the G55s today. Progressing at a glacial pace here but we are moving forward. I got the bottom and top coats on today and hopefully tomorrow will be the poka-dots.

Oh… and for all you BV 138 fans I thought I would share this one too. Needs a good wash as it has seen it’s share of dust in 20+ years. It’s the supermodel 1/72 kit.

Nice BV. I guess if you were the pilot you wouldn’t want the nose gunner to find out you’d been with his wife!

That G55 is a tiny little thing. Looking forward to the polka dots.

Dave- so far the thickest styrene I have cut is .030" as that is the thickest I have on hand. I have also cut 1/4 " square balsa wood for my R/C builds with it also.

Looking forward to the “polka-dots” , a pain but man they really make the plane stand out .(er hidden actually) [;)]

I love that Supermodel BV 138 - I gotta get one now…The search is on , Anybody know of one out there ? I have several different 1/48 Hasegawa 109 kits and PE for one [:-^]

Sean, check ebay. That Super Model kit is 1/72 and there are plenty of 1/72 kits there.

I wonder how the crew bailed out of that thing?

yeah I know, I was hoping to make someone happy by getting rid of a white elephant for something different and vice ~versa
