Recommended F-16C?

Hi All - I consider myself to be an intermediate modeler, and I am not put off by high detail work. I am trying to determine an F-16C model to build, and I was hoping someone could provide recommendation(s) of ones to consider.

These are the specs I’m looking for:

  • Aircraft/Variant: F-16C block 30/32 (with GE tail)
  • Prefer to have TGT pod and ordnance in the box, but not necesary
  • “bookshelf” size → scale 1/48 or 1/72

The Revell (Germany) that is reviewed on this site looks nice, but I wanted to see if there were any considered “better”.

TIA,

Hasagawa makes a 1/48 scale F-16C, Kit # 9095, with the GE engines. I don’t know what block number it is. They also make a 1/48 scale F-16C Night Falcon, kit # 09061. I haven’t seen any pictures of them so I don’t know if they have the TGT pods.

Whaz up Snacko,
Here are some other F-16C’s that Hasegawa did

Kit #'s:

09319 F-16C (block 30-35) GE F-110’s or GE 100’s

09368 F-16CG (block 40) Blk 40’s GE F-110 or 100’s. Blk 42’s GE F-100 or PW 220’s

06110 F-16CJ (block 50-52) Blk 50’s GE F-110’s or 129’s. Blk 52’s GE F-100 or PW 229’s

09382 F-16CJ (block 50-52) " ditto "

Block 50-52’s came equiped w/ attachment points for the “AN/ASQ 213 HARM Targeting sys”. This sys was used for “Wild Weasel” missions.
Also you may want to check w/ the type of block number that was used in a particular squadron or group before you build your Falcon.
Hope this helps ya out
Then again people have said that I have more F-16’s than the entire USAF.

I’ve heard that Italeri also have a selection of fairly recent blocks of F-16 in their catalog.

I’ve never seen them so I cant say what options might come with them. They should be good stuff though, I’ve never had a problem with Italeri kits.

Berny13 - thanks for the info. I’ll look into Hasagawa. Re: Night Falcon - that designation was circa 1990, and at the time they only had the FLIR pod. Later they added the TGT pod, as did other blocks that dropped PGMs. Interesting to see if the Hasagawa model has both (a la F-15E).

I did notice that the Revell kit had tail cones for both engine variants + big/small mouth options. Coolness.

Butz - thanks too for the info. Yeah, the block x0 variants carry the GE engine, and the x2 variants carry the P&W engines. That the same for the 3x, 4x, and 5x blocks. I might not know the ins-and-outs of the models, but my job has lent me the background on the military hardware  My friends in the squadrons I work with sing the praises of the GE engines and hate the P&Ws. Everyone has their preferences.

When I get around to building the Mountain Home F-16C, then I’ll put on the HTS pod, as that squadron runs with block 52s.

I can’t wait to get started!

Snacko,
Your quite welcome. I too have a few cousins that fly the 16 out Shaw and Nellis.
Hopefully when your bird is finished ,you’ll post a pic of it. I’m really looking forward to seeing it in the colors of the 389th FS.
