Recommended contour gauges?

I find myself needing a countour gauge for a project I’m working on.

I looked at some general-purpose ones at a woodworking store, but they seemed a little coarse to me.

Are there better ones on the market for plastic modeling, or should I just live with a woodworking model?

Thanks –

Hhhmmm… I’d like to know the answer to this myself. I’ve often thought a fine contour gauge would be handy.

I eventually decided on a MicroMark unit. I dunno if it’s any better than the other units, but I decided to bank on their reputation.

The only other one that seemed interesting was a Japanese model. It’s a little more expensive, but might be better. I dunno. Here’s a link to the Shinwa Contour Gauge.

The Shinwa contour gauge looks nice. Thanks for the link.

the shinwa guage looks very similar to a contour guage that you would get at a wood working store/dept.
Staley offers one that is just as nice and works just as well.

Bill;

I picked up my contour gauge at the local hardware store when they were on sale. It is a generic wood working type and it works great. I have used it for cutting bulkheads for aircraft and for armour interior detailing. They each work the same. I protect the piece I am working on by using a piece of masking tape. I think sometimes the expensive tool is not always the best. Here’s the one I have. http://www.leevalley.com/wood/page.aspx?c=1&p=32523&cat=1,42936,42958

I hope this helps with your decision.

Cheers;
