Hi guys, I know you all have seen this question a million times and it is posted in the AB forum, but that forum confuses me with all the different postings. So here’s the q, I am looking to buy a good airbrush, I am going to be using it on 1/35 armor, so I don’t want over spray. Here’s the catch, I need one that is around $100.00.
So what do you suggest?

badgers have a few airbrushes around $100. You should also try art supply stores like Michael’s and they tend to have better price than some other places.

Hmmm, I wouldn’t reccomend the aztek. I used it as my first, and it did me some great work, but start off with soemthing better. I got a badger 155 anthem for about 50 at michael’s and an iwata hp-bcs for free, but that’s a long story. Either one of those brushes beats the cr*p out of the aztek as far as quality IMHO.
not sure if you’ll get any different answers here that you wouldn’t have gotten in the AB forum, but regardless of scale I use dual action gravity feed ABs. much easier to clean and you can spray at lower psi for thinner lines. that would be my recommendation.
I’ve read nothing but good things in these forums on the popular brands (Badger, Paasche, Iwatas) with the exception of Aztecs. these seem to be hit and miss from what people have posted. Either they work great or they are useless pieces of crap.
My Passche ‘H’ single action costed me Cdn $79.99 at sale. At regular price it will be Cdn $99.95. It’s single action and it’s good for beginner. It’s easy to use and clean up and the effect is quit good. The only down side is the body is too big and too heavy. Using it for too long may make you hand sore. I think Badgers and Iwatas have lighter body. Anyway, IMHO, for a price below $100, single action is best you can get. So far I’ve never seen a double action one costs less than that price.
I’m sure you have heard all the negative about Azteks by now. I’d go with the Badger Anthem or Universal. They are both double-action brushes. I myself use a very useful Badger 200, which is very economical and sprayer friendly. All can be purchased for under $100 at www.dixieart.com
Badger 200 or Iwata HP-C with the screw adjust handle and crown cap. Get off the wallet because if you buy wrong you will be mad and eventually have to buy the right one later anyway. A good one will surve you for years. Greg
I use a Iwata HP-C ($100+) for all my acrylic spraying. I also use a Badger 350 ($27) for harsher materials like my lacquer clear-coat.

If you have a Currys Art supply store near you head over there. They have a large supply of air brushes at various prices.
I have an Iwata and I love it. As others have said though you are better to buy a good one if you can cause you can’t really go cheap and get good results.
I tried that and ended up having to buy something better after all.

Anthony: Pls excuse me if this question is too basic but in your $100 budget limit, have you already included your air source? Do you already have a compressor or CO2 tank w/regulator? Items like Testors propellent in cans is just garbage. Just wondering b/c if you haven’t included that essential item, you may need to consider this more closely.

I use the Passche Internal Mix Double Action Airbrush, its not exactly fine-tuned, but it definatley gets the job done if you know how to use it, I got mine for $75 dollars at a hobby shop in Modesto, CA
I got my Badger 155 for 40% off at Michaels using one of the coupons you can find quite often in their weekly fliers. Its worked great for me so far.

I’m in the same boat myself. Go to Currys ( www.currys.com ) they have several airbrushes. I have been recommended a Badger airbrush myself, and I do think I’ll go with one. Many of the kits they offer are sub, or around 100 CAD, and come with three tips.
