Recomendations for a 1:48 F4F-4 wingfold...

You all guessed it, I want to do a 1:48 F4F-4 Wildcat with it’s wings folded. I know KMC made one, and I heard that Danger boy does too only Lone Star Models bought the molds. If anyone has had experience with either of these I would appreciate hearing from you. Which is better, easier, fit, detail, you know the drill. Thanks in advance and have a great day.

Regards,

Freddie from LI

Try a monogram kit you can fold its wings

I suppose you also know about the Aires detail set for the Tamiya kit. It has wingfolds along with everything else, but it’s pretty expensive. It does have engine, cockpit, gun bays and parts to open the cowl. The resin is very nice. Aires 4058.

One thing you may want to wait a bit for is the new Hobbyboss F4F-4 that is due to be released in November at least in Asia. The company has a F4F-3 out now that looks alot like teh Trumpeter 32nd kit and if the scale down of the larger kit is real they may have a folded wing option with the new kit. Though there is no definate info yet.

Here is the HobbyBoss F4F-3 info page from a Japanese site

Just remember these are full kits and not the easy build 72nd kits that Hobby Boss is curently mostly known for.

Keep an eye out on Hobbylink Japan, 1999.co.jp or Lucky Model to see the kits early. They (Hobbyboss and a few webstores like Hannants) have all of the USN versions listed, F4F-3 Early (yellow wing, pre Pearl Harbor) F4F-3 late (post Pearl with differant gunsight and possibly cowling) F4F-4, FM-1 (four gun folding wing mostly USN Battle of the Atlantic useage) and for the first time a mainstream FM-2 kit in 48th (i.e. no resin!) No British Martlets yet though.

Another area to keep an eye out on is the news from the Tokyo Hobby Show later this week and the RCHTA/I Hobby Expo next week may have further news on the HobbyBoss Wildcats
