This was my first time applying clear coat over decals and it didn’t go well. I used a new can of Vallejo acrylic satin varnish, well shaken and only did a very light coat. I think the decal that’s messed up was where I started spraying (I actually started the spray away from the model, then moved it to this decal). The rest, such as decal on right, seems fine. Do you have any ideas as to what caused the problem and what I should do in the future? Thanks!

Hi Troy - Frustrations with clear coating is an extremely common thread in this forum so you’re certainly not alone! Your technique seems sound in theory, but it still looks like you have a very heavy application on that starboard wing. Was the photo taken wet, or after drying?

It was taken after 24 hr drying. I suspect I just lingered too long on the first decal.
Here are some Google answers, but I appreciate that there might be some reluctance to spray more product on top of the product…
It may be that the rattle can delivery method is collecting and trapping condensate from the air in the early part of the pass, since controlling the humidity of the room is the only variable you didn’t mention in your original post…
Thanks Darren! I don’t have a spray booth, so I spray outside. It’s Florida, so I typically spray mid-morning before it’s too hot. I’d guess it was about 80F and 75% humidity when I did the clear coat.
