Hi guys just thought i would drop a line in on a film i bought the other day. It is called THEY WERE NOT DIVIDED. The film is about a British tank crew that after training Go to Normandy and you follow them all the way to the Ardennes. The film is black and white and was made by Terence Young the director of the Bond movies. It was made in 1950. The crew have Fireflys and M4,s and you get a great view of the day to day life of the crew as you follow them on their journey. Loads of footage of thier tanks which i might add are covered in chalk writing. The highlight was when they came under fire from German vehicles. I was waiting for shermans with German markings to come into view when all of a sudden a Tiger 1 came into view. My first thoughts was that was clever incorporating original footage into the film But then a second Tiger came into view breaking though a hedge row . The Firefly crew took a shot at it and brewed it up with fire coming out of the hatches and of the turret. Along side the tiger was a Jagdpanther that had been hit aswell. Both clearly visible. one of the British crew went over to the tiger to see the damage and you get a close up of the side of the tank with the zimmeritt all over it. Clearly a real vehicle part of the film. The Jagdpanther is in the background. The other Tiger 1 has no zimmeritt. I do know that the British had several real vehicles that they took back to Britain after the war for evaluation , maybe these are what were used to make this film? Well worth watching and i only paid£3.99 from a shop called the Range.
Just watched a clip of a film called Theirs is the glory Men of Arnham on the net and this film has loads of real panther tanks, a Tiger II and a Tiger I. Found out about this film whilst looking up the other one i mentioned. Type in Theirs is the glory on Google and you will see the clip.
Great footage. I notice those Tigers and panthers all have the early commanders Hatch. Either they were captured earlier in the war or found at training bases at the end. Shows it isn’t german footage thats been added in.
I am wondering if those Panthers in that film clip came from the French. They used Panthers after the war until they found them to be unreliable and they shifted over to Shermans.
