I have a P-51D that I am working on, the Hasagawa 1/48 kit.
Anyway the panel lines on this model are very thin, and raised, so i am in the process of re-scrbing the lines, I have read some techniques about it and i am taking my time and being careful, however, I notice the lines, although straigt are not super clean…any ideas or suggestion on how to clean these lines up?, the panel lines are flanked on both sides by rivet details, so I really dont wanna just sand everything down if you follow what I mean.
Use adhesive backed plastic labeling tape (the black or blue variety) to guide the scriber along the panel line. It’s thick and sturdy so it will keep the scribing tool running true and give a crsip clean line. Cut it to length, remove the backing and apply along the panel line. It can be used a couple of time before the adhesive backing loses its grip. Available at any fine office supply store everywhere.
Also be careful not to press down too hard on your first few passes. Let the weight of the tool and its scribing tip do the work. Once the line is established, then if you need to make the line deeper a little extra pressure won’t be an issue, but be careful not to go too deep or press too hard.
On advice, I used a small amount of thin liquid cement (in this case, Tamiya extra thin) and let it wick into the rescribed lines as if I was applying an oil wash. It worked pretty well at eliminating the ragged look after rescribing.
thanks for all the tips guys!!! I found something that works really well that i would like to share…A toothpick!! I took one and rubbed it repeadetly in the new line and it smoothed thigns out very well!!!
