Re-Painting Chassis

Hello fellow modelers!

I have a question regarding re-painting:

I am building a Ford Coupe. I primed it, following with some coats of a medium blue color from Vallejo. This paint was a pain to airbrush since it’s from the Model Color series, very thick, no matter how much I thinned it, it was really hard to apply.

After a couple of days I realized I didn’t like the way it looked, so I wanted to change the color of the entire chassis for a glossy dark blue. My question is:

  • Should I prime it again on top of the medium blue color and then apply the new color?

  • Should I paint it directly with the new color?

  • Should I scrape the old color with something to return to the original plastic color and then proceed as usual with prime then new paint? In case afirmative, what do you recommend I use for this considering it’s acrylic paints?

Thank you very much for the help!

Sebastian

What are you using for primer? If it is a hot primer, you may not want to use it over the paint.

I use Vallejo Primer Surface, usually gray or white.

Denatured alcohol and a soft brush will clean up Vallejo MC in very short order. It won’t harm the plastic and/or any glued joints.
