Re Paint question

Good evening, modelers,

Hoping somebody can share their thoughts on Clearcoat problem.

I recently finished painting, my AMT 70 1/2 Camaro with MCW cranberry red 7011 lacquer.

I waited well over a week before I put the clearcoat on it. The mistake I may have made was that I used
Dupi color lacquer clearcoat.

This has resulted in a light white film on areas of the paint. UGH!!!

What I’m thinking about doing is letting it set for a week or two. Then lightly sand it. And then reapply the MCW lacquer cranberry red.

Does anybody think I will have backlash with that process?

Sorry to hear of your misfortune. The duplicolor clear was way too aggressive (or hot as some would say) and caused the problem. You should be good to sand in 48 hours, wash, and reapply your color coat. If the result is satisfactory, let it cure then apply your clear, cure, and wet sand. If the reapplication of your color coat is unsatisfactory, then you’ll need to strip the paint completely and start fresh. Don’t despair, all is not lost!

Couldn’t he just wet sand the clear coat and polish it out, like a real car ?
