Well what a surprise an all american lie up of experts picked the Boing 727 ahead of the Hurricane…The spitefire .No real numbers and movie footage made a legend…The Hurricane accounted for at least 3 times the kill ratio…not mentioned in your list…Where are the Boomerang and Wirreway mentioned? They saved Australia and P.N.G at a time when P anything was missing…You rate the 737 because of production figures???Remember the VW beetle sold heaps…A Bad design and poor Quality…However Americans bought heaps…When you next do your surveys, either ask readers or a world team of experts…
Though I must say That is great to know that Brig.General Chuck Yeager is still pushing the envelope…Long may he do so…
defrenzy:
The May issue has a list of NOMINATIONS not the final results.

I would like to know:
- What “most significant” means.
- Does any one on the panel have a degree in aerodynamics or aeronautocal engineering?
Yeah, I think Derek has a point -
“Most siginficant” means what? Advances in aerodynamic design? Breaking new ground in engineering processes? Record breaking? Created new materials manufacturing industries? Kill ratios? Production figures? Longevity of operational life? Miles flown? Visual aesthetics?
It’s a bloody hard call, which ever way you look at it.
I have no idea where to begin because I have a great deal of knowledge about some of the aircraft listed, and virtually none about others.
Good luck y’all
