RCAF Chinook CH-147F Model Kit

Goodday All, looking to build an RCAF Chinook. Now, the RCAF has recently been equipped with the F model. A quick Google revealed nothing but a slough of D models. My question to the guru’s out there, what can be done to existing D models to upgrade to an F. Here’s a pic of a D:

AND, here’s the NEW RCAF F Model (now operating out of CFB Petawawa):

The biggest difference I can find is the new engines, upgraded airframe ??. So, if I did up a D model and stuck RCAF roundels on it, can I call it an F??

That F looks like the RAF’s Mk 3. It has larger fuel tanks along the sides. Though the shape of those looks slightly different to the RAF’s.

Yeah, in the photos above, the front of the fuel tanks don’t look the same. D looks squarish in the front.

I am guessing that the only other visual difference would be the antenna arrangement. But those fuel tanks will take a bit of work.

If you need photos , I have some .

That looks more like an MH-47G without the External Hoist and in flight refuel probe.

Not sure exactly what kind of deal Canada made with Boeing

As has been mentioned, CH-47Fs are equipped with T-55-L-714 engines, but the fuel cells are the same capacity as CH-47Ds and like the Ds, the Fs aren’t equipped with weather radar in the nose.

Your best bet is to start with the Italeri MH-47 kit that comes with the parts for the larger fuel cells. Also the forward alnding gear on the Es and Gs are further forward than on the Ds and Fs due to the larger fuel cells.

The only problem with that photo is that it is an “A” model.

CAF photos here.

Thanks sharkbait!

One other main visual distinguishing feature between the D & F are the screens on the top of the aft pylon, just in front of the aft rotor. The D’s have 4 grill openings, two on each side of the centerline, while the F has two screens right on the centerline. Seeing how we view models mostly from the top down, this could be something that may not be able to be glossed over for reasonable accuracy.

Thanks Ish
