The spinner on that thing is so big, you could hide pretty much anything back there!
It sure is! that ting is massive! The thing is, is that Im trying to find a radial in the 1/32 scale so I can take part of the cowling off to display the engine and give it a more in depth look into the model! If anyone could help that would be fantastic! Thanks again !

I haven’t found an aftermarket 3350 in 32nd scale. Maybe you could take an R-2800 off an old revell F4-U kit and make it look like one? (both have 18 cylinders)

HAHAHA thats cool. Ive only met one other person besides you with the name Bret…neato!
I found an engines thats a R2800 thats an AM but as Nationals say that as a model that is being converted that I have to build all parts of the conversion and I cant use any AM parts, well thats atleast what I gather from it. Not sure though.
You can use AM parts. What the rules say about a conversion is someone that relies on AM part will be at a disadvantage to other entrants that have scratch built the conversion components. From the IPMS handbook under contest rules…
“…A conversion accomplished with primarily commercial aftermarket parts will be at a disadvantage, therefore, against a conversion accomplished primarily by the builder’s craftsmanship–assuming both are finished to similar standards…”
So if you want to use AM engines and make your own R-3350 you can try…
Bret,
Which aircraft do you wish to present an R-3350 in 1/32 scale? Engines & Things has the R-3350 in different versions in 1/48 scale but not 1/32 scale. They do have the R-1820 in 1/32.

Hey Ken, Thanks for the help but I think I got my eyes set on the one on the link above your comment. Thanks though. And to answer the que. Its goin to be a converted SewaFury to a Racing SeaFury. #105

One problem with using R-2800 cylinders to represent R-3350 cylinders is that the 3350 cylinders are noticably larger than the 2800. Plus, the shapes of the two cylinders are significantly different.
Yeah Ive noticed this right after you reply. Thanks for pointing out the details. Do you think I would have points shaved off for not being that accurate since I have no knowledge and skill of casting resin and making my own. Because I would really like to use this R-2800 for the display. But if not its ok I can deal without.
scroll down for a look. can’t tell what’s behind that prop.

i would like to ask a stupid queston do u know that this is the engine they used in the race plane that is the R3350 if they bought the plane and the engine was junk how do u know that they did not change the engine to the R2800 i mean maybe maybe not just asking
The Fury originally had the Bristol Centaurus, sleeve valve radial engine, with a 5 blade Rotol prop (and it turned the wrong way, as in clockwise) Parts are very hard to come by for these engines, and most flying Sea Fury’s have been converted to use Wright R-3350’s. They are comparable in HP and size and weight but easier to maintain.
What Bret said! BTW I finaly got a hold of Stewert Dawson(the spirit of texas sea fury pilot) Im heading up to KGYI this weekend to take a full detailed photoshoot including the engines I hope and all over it. If someone could lead me to a site were I could post them I will do so, as for the B-17G manuals I have.
