This non-sensical Monday topic is explained by the following:
Saw the movie (again) last night. One of my favorites.
Always liked the look of the plane and am wondering what it is, so I can see if one exists somewhere as a kit.
Slow day at work 'cuz I was up too late last night watching “Hellfighters” and I’m tired. [:D][:D][:D]
Anywho, in the movie, “Hellfighters” The Duke plays an oil well fire “put-er outer” loosely base on Red Adair. Twice, his company owned private jet is shown. Tried to find it in my Jane’s Guide, but was in a hurry.
Here is the description:
Business jet;
swept wing;
4 engines all located on the tail, two each side;
stabilizers located middle of the rudder, above the engines, but is not a T-tail;
looked like 5 -6 passenger windows each side;
each wing had a “sponson” mid wing which maybe held the landing gear.
First person with the correct answer gets the Col. Flagg award, “Knowing everything about nothing.” And, since I don’t know the correct answer, everyone is a winner!!! PS: Extra credit for knowing who Col. Flagg is.
As always, Thank You for shopping at K-Mart and Vote Early, Vote Often!
The plane is a Lockheed Jetstar (Death Star for those who worked them) or the AF version is C-140, this plane was also in 007’s Gold Finger when James Bond offed Mr. Goldfinger in the end of the movie,
I’ve worked on a few Jstars when I was an Airframe Mechanic at an FBO in Lincoln, Nebraska about 5 years ago
And I guess I’m also a MASH nut too
Col Flagg was played by Ed Winter and unfortunatly he passed away in 2001. One of my other obsessions is obscure actors and the IMDB website is a great source of info.
I still remember the scene where he announced he was like the wind and nobody saw him leave. Then jumped through the window and Hawkeye looks out and says the wind has broken his leg.
rockythegoat;
the main reason we called them Death Stars they where almost a Black Hole for tools and parts, I lost plenty of Cleaco temp fasteners to them, and I found a couple of wrenches while doing an “A” inspection on one
rockythegoat;
And another reason was that they have so many things to hit your head on, like the engine nacelles when getting out of the aft avionics compartment
Great. [sigh] This question was answered 12 years ago.
Check the dates before you dig up old posts that have already been answered and are loooong dead.
Not any kind of problem, of course, but if the question was answered and you have nothing to contribute that is new, then there really is no reason to dig it up.
