I was wondering if anyone has had any experiences with purchasing a quiet air compressor for airbrushing? From online I have seen Iwata makes a couple of models that many people seem to like. I live in an apartment and would like to purchase as quiet compressor as possible. I would only be using this for model building, of which I do about 3 or 4 a year. I have read that some compressors don’t last very long. I currently use an old Campbell Hausfeld QuietAir that although has never been “quiet” it has lasted me for about 15 years. Its getting old and I need to get a replacment.

claims 50db and the small 3 litre one I have now is 47db.
I’m in Australia but I’m sure there would be identical units around the planet. There are other threads around as well to look at on the subject to check out.

UPDATE, 17-2-17.
Had a look at the above compressor today, very fast but far louder than 50 db, I took my little 47db compressor in to Gasweld and sat them side by side, there was a big fan running within a few feet, could not here my little one but the Toolex was quite noticeable. Didn’t buy one.

Yep think that’s the way to go.
I bought a Central Pneumatic 93657 compressor at Harbor Freight couple of years ago and I’ve been very happy with it. I bought it on sale, but the normal price is about $70. It’s non-continous run and quiet. Maybe not as quiet as a refrigerator, but certainly quieter than the volume of most peoples’ TVs or stereos. You can probably find an on-line review on YouTube.
