I have found that cutting the sprues off with plenty to cut with an exacto knife leaves kind of white pressure spots i guess id call them? So would the best way to go be? some fine grit sandpeper? I did have very good results using some old sandpaper i had lying around from refinishing the furniture on an AK stock to take the lines running around the road wheels off.
Get some good quality sprue cutters first. Then some different grade sanding sticks. And a basic set of needle files. Use the nippers to remove the part from the sprue. Then starting with the coarse grit sanding sticks file down and remaining stubs. Work thru to progressively smoother grades until the stump is flush and as smooth as the surrounding area.
What stikpusher sez.
Those White marks are actually stress marks(very fine hair-cracks in the plastic) and to remove them fully you will need to remove the material that contains them.
Full removal can show as distortion of the surface, most modelers go for smooth as the marks won’t show when primed and painted.
Compression marks…that is one of the reasons that I designed the new sprue cutter for Xuron. The previous and other manufacturers offerings tended to compress and tear before they actually cut and most didn’t cut cleanly. The new 2175ET Professional Sprue Cutter from Xuron was designed to reduce pinching and cut cleaner and flusher than other cutters on the market.
You can also use a micro razor saw to remove the part from the sprue. Then clean up the residue with a polishing stick.
Where do you get on of these saws?
Just checked out the new 2175ET Professional Sprue Cutter. Looks good … must have … how to get without wife knowing … must have …
