Quick O.D.S. questions [ I hope ]

#1 Did the bulk of our Marines & G.I.'s wear the old B.D.U.'s [ in desert tan of course ] during Deasert Storm ? #2 Was France involved in peacekeeping [ as opposed to combat op’s ]. Thanks ahead, rudedog

For most of that deployment, six color, so called chocolate chip, BDU’s were used. By the end, the new 3 color BDU’s were in place as well as the black on black BDU’s.

Concur with Al for the uniforms, with the exception of the black on black BDUs. No idea what he means there.

The French participated in full combat ops in ODS. They sent an Armored Division too Saudi as part of the coallition force.

Wow,That was snappy !!! Must be cuz you across the river from me.First, thank you & second, what the heck are " black on black " ??? Thank’s Mr. Lafleche, rudedog

Thanks also Gino.Had to be choc.chp. cookies guy’s ,huh,? I can’t think of a more difficult pattern !!! rudedog

We used the chocolate chip DCUs, even when we re-deployed in 1992. I don’t think I saw the 3-color DCU in theater until 1992.

Oops. My memory got messed up. It was green on green night camo as seen in these pictures

I was with 1 ID during Desert Shield/Storm. When deployed, we were wore the desert BDU’s. The flak jacket was the standard woodland pattern/color with a desert camo cover. When 1 ID spearheaded the invasion into Iraq, everyone was dressed in MOP gear (Chemical suits). The suits were woodland BDU pattern. The only desert camo present once the MOP gear was on was the cover of the flak jacket. If memory serves correctly, everyone around was dressed that way from the combat arms to the support units.

The above applies to the invasion as 1st ID spearheaded into Iraq. I do not know if this is true for the troops entering through Kuwait.

As for the French, not sure but can tell you that when the invasion started, all I saw were 1st ID all the way to the Euphraties… possibly they were present in Kuwait?

HTH

Thanks Steve also, though Now I’m A bit confused.I know during my tour in the “Corps”, we got everything last, but that was during the post Nam,spend down, period.Rob,I even had a set of “herring bone” utilities thrown at me at P.I. !!! Thanks all,it sounds like I can’t go wrong no matter what I do . rudedog

Now I follow you. The green/black anti-NVG night parka and pants.

France was screening the far NW flank of the Coallition line.

I was in First Infantry Division also. I was in a tank company and all of our support guys were wearing woodland flak jackets and woodland chemical suits. The only DCU we had showing was the cover on our kevlars. Our tankers were wearing solid O.D. Nomex flame resistant uniforms head to ankles with standard black combat boots.
