I have recently ordered this kit from my LHS and am now doing some research on the subject.
Allthough many people are very possitive there seems to be an ongoing discussion about the shape of the noce kone.
Has anyone advice to give on this?
Also the cockpit color according to the instruction is given as Tamiya XF-71.
This is a green color.
Looking at varioues reference pictures the color is more like this:
My recent SU-27 (Academy / Eduard) had the cockpit down as grey.
As with many aircraft, I would say that there’s probably going to be some variance. For example, here’s a MiG-21 cockpit, looks more green than gray to me:
If I had to guess, I would say that variances could be from different batches of paint, or whether the a/c had gone through any modernizing programs where they may have changed things in the cockpit, etc etc. maintenance could also be a factor, if there were a need to repaint the cockpit, I suppose. Keep in mind that old Soviet aircraft were not always maintained very well, and so I would guess that some things would not have mattered so much, such as what color the cockpit might be repainted. You might find that any of those colors would be appropriate. Soviet jets are not generally the same as American ones, in that we seem to have kept far more detailed records here in the US about which specific aircraft went through what maintenance or upgrade programs than the USSR did. If you were looking to build an F-14, for example, you could look up the bureau number for the specific jet you are modeling and determine exactly what was done to it.

I found a link when i was trying to figure out why Eduard had the SU-27 down as grey and the MiG-21 down as green and found this link:
Here is my my test with 3 samples:
Left: A.MIG-223, this looks to green for me, I will get a MRP sample
Right: Tamiya XF-71 (Recomended in ICM instruction)
Middle: My home brew, unfortunatelly not enough left since my Hind back in 2007
I’m not sure that the color was under tight quality control, and suspect that the color was sprayed on at the factory before assembly. If a ribbit counter mentions it at a show just tell them that its weathered.
You can buy the new paint from Sherwin Williams if you want to: product: MIL-DTL-24441D/21B. Its maritime paint so it can be pricy. Paint your house, car, even boat with it.
My local paint store will mix any color I need as small a a few ounces as long as they can get the color codes. It’s enamel but I get quite a bit more comperied to a few bottles of hobby paint price wise. And don’t have to deal with tip dry as much as with acrylics.
