Question for the NYers out there -- Ace Hobbies

A few years ago, the old hobby shop called Ace Hobbies disappeared from the building where it was housed, on 31st street.

Anyone out there know if Lou is still in business? I have a lot of loyalty to local stores, and would greatly prefer to shop with him. Thanks for any info.

I used to spend a lot of my lunch hour there. Weren’t they located on the third floor? Was Lou the blonde fellow? If so, someone told me that he died and the shop closed. I might, however, be mixing this up with the other hobby shop up on 45th street.

At first, they were on 35th or 36th street, if memory serves, but that was many years ago. Then Lou relocated to that wholesaler’s building on 31st, on the third floor, but then he had to move to a smaller space on the 6th floor because he was having financial problems. Now he’s gone altogether, at least from the list of businesses in the lobby.

I don’t know if he was a blonde. He was in his late 40’s-early 50’s, I’d say, with a moustache, bald on the top. A bit gruff, but not a bad guy. Zaloga used to be in the shop now and then. (I used to see Zaloga occasionally at Sky Books too, another sadly-defunct New York modeler’s resource.)

No one here has any hard info?
