Question about Vosper MTB construction materials

I’ve searched on Google for over an hour now but have had no luck (found some very
interesting reference sites on WW2 torpedo boats, but not the info I’m looking for).

What I’d like to know is: Was the superstructure/bridge of the British Vosper MTB
made out of wood or metal/armour plate? I know the hull and deck are wood, but am not sure about the
superstructure.
I need to know this for weathering the Revell 1/72 Vosper that I’m currently working on (wood doesn’t
generally rust  - so I don’t want to put rust streaks on it and then have someone at the local modelling
club point out my error!)

Hey my 500th… Anyway I am quit sure all “early” vosper boats were wood hulled. Some had armor plating in critical areas but these were expendable boats and wood was cheap and easy to work with.

On page 28 of Squadron’s Vosper MTBs in Action, it states that the wheelhouse cockpit was constructed of thre-ply .375 in thick waterproofed Mahogany.

Thanks very much for the info!
I’ll just use a very light drybrush of grey to represent wear/weathering, and confine the rust streaks
to around metal fittings.

Were the US PT boats also all-wood? I have the Revell PT-109 kit as well (not built yet).

American PT boats, British MTB’s (WWII) and, British RAF rescue boats and German Schnellboots were made of Mahogony. The German Schnellboots had an armored bridge. I have the Revell Germany PT boat and Vosper MTB. I’m looking to ugrade the armarment for both and will be using Millicast figures on the models

My MTB is now painted + weathered - thanks for the helpful info. I’ve used a very, very light
streaky drybrush of dark grey on most of the hull, and some light rust staining around the metal
fittings and the engine cover.

Currently I’m adding the rigging lines, using fishing wire - this is a real pain to do, requiring very careful
use of clamps + weights then leaving the glue to set for an hour or so! When that’s done I’ll just need to retouch
the paint a bit, add the flag, and paint the crew figures.
Once my model is finished I’ll post some pics here.
