I’m not, strictly speaking, working on a scale model, rather a series of digital models of WW2 aircraft for a video game so I thought this forum would be a good resource. I’m working on a model of a librator and I need to know the proper terms for the turret on the back , just behind the cockpit and for the turret on the belly (ball-turret perhaps?) This is relevant to the game as the player will choose which turret to occupy.
Thanks in advance.
The Tail turret, the dorsal turret and the ball turret.
Thank you very much.
I have another related question: Did Lancasters, or any other RAF bomber, ever have ball turrets? I’d like to include an RAF bomber but it needs to have all three turrets . It would actually be pretty easy for me to tweak my Liberator model to become a Lancaster (these are pretty simple models to keep the poly count low).
The ball turret on the B-17 and B-24 were a US design and not shared with our British allies. The best thing to do is a google search for each AC and you can examone detailed layouts for each.
This sounds like a pretty neat game. What’s it gonna be? Don’t leave me hanging. [:D]
Well, you could count the American bombers flown by the RAF, the liberator was used for coastal duties and places like Burma, and the 214 bomber squadron used forts in Europe (coastal command used them too)
I saw some period photos with RAF insignia. Those were black and white so not too helpful trying to come up with a color scheme. If anyone knows of a color image of an RAF Liberator please let me know.
The game is going to be a simple arcade-style gunnery game, not a flight sim or anything like that, and its not commercial. I’m just making it for fun and to try out the new 3d features of a program called Gamemaker. I’ll post a link if and when I finish it as long as anyone from this forum who looks at it promises not to take it too seriously. Like I said I’m not a scale modeller so the proportions, paint jobs, etc of the models are nowhere near accurate. The spitfire will look enough like a Spitfire but won’t stand up to scrutiny.
