Does anyone know about the quality, or lack there of concerning Ark Models? They have armor kits in 1/35th scale, and they are very cheap in price compared to the more well developed kits on the market. I was wondering if they would be worth the investment even for experimenting with weathering and shading techniques. Or would I be better off ignoring this company all together?
Reboxed Eastern Express, ICM, Alan kits. Google the particular subject to see if that kit is worth the effort or not. Some of them could be good while others terrible.
They are also “responsible” for some re-releases of really old Heller 1/400 Russian pre-dreadnought ships like the Aurora and the Potemkin.
There you have something worth getting, if you ever want a kit of that subject.
My experience with them in ship models is that if you are looking to compare with anything mainstream even lower end like Lindberg or Aurora, forget it, but they can be built up.
Thanks. Some of the kits are only 12 to 17 dollars through Squadron, but that may even be to much if they aren’t better than you describe. I really didn’t expect wonderful kits from them. I just wanted a reasonable representation of what I wanted to build and then practice weathering and filtering processes.
Buy one and see. It’s probably worth it.
I’ve looked at them for various subjects before (I only said looked) because sometimes they have, like, one thing I could use out of a specific category that I’m working in at the time but I’ve glossed over Ark every time. They more likely than not are good for just practicing techniques and what-not, like what I’ll probably be doing with a Starfix 109 G.
I bought an ARK model a while ago. It looks pretty good. I just liked the weird subject. I’m not big on the track links. Kinda flashy.
I might try one on the KV 1 or KV 2 kits just to see. Thanks for the input.
If you want a good 1/35 KV 1 or KV 2 kit, may I suggest you obtain a Trumpeter kit off eBay ? They are wonderfully accurate, not too complex to build and probably would cost the same or LESS than this Squadron offer. Indeed, the Trumpeter 1/35 KVs have often been said to be one of the best values for a 1/35 kit.

OK. I went with T26E4’s suggestion of a Trumpeter kit. Sort of. Instead of the cheaper models I bought a KV1-1939 kit. I had some small disasters with it, which I was able to cover with “mud”, but it turned out fairly good. Squadron had in for 32 dollars and some change.
