Hi all,
I just bought “Hell Cats vs Betty Bomber” (kit # 70956) for 12.50 Euro (on sale, was 28.95 Euro). Seems to be a fair price for 3 planes in 1 kit (2 Hell Cats / 1 Betty Bomber) but somehow I have the feeling I have bought the kit too quickly (but I just couldn’t resist, again…[;)])
Few questions came to my mind.
Are Lindberg / is this kit rare?
What the the quality of Lindberg / this kit?
I’m a 48ther so I can’t help you.
I do know that Lindberg has some decent kits but don’t know which ones they are.
Some help I am huh?
Lindberg kits are almost universally inaccurate and of poor quality. They are generally viewed to be little more than toys. With that said, they are a very old kit maker, and they produced models that helped mold many of the modelers on this site’s love of the hobby when they were kids. Lindberg also produced very unusual and esoteric kits. The Betty is an example. To my knowledge, nobody else produced a Betty for many years after the Lindberg kit came out. I don’t think the one you have is especially rare, as I got mine back in the mid 90’s, and see them on ebay all the time. If you had purchased the old “hard box” kit from the mid 60’s, that would be somewhat more rare, but still not especially expensive. I personally loved their Nazi kits (Me410, Ar234, Hs129, etc.), as again, these were not produced by any other manufacturer for a long tome. Furthermore, the box art was fascinating. From a technical standpoint, you didn’t buy a winner, but you can still have fun building those kits.
I would have to agree with Scott. I have a couple in my stash that have been lying around on the bottom of the pile for about twenty years now. The 1/48 Avenger is crude by today standards of detail but the fit of the parts is not bad. It also includes a motor to drive the propeller which you actually have to build. I was impressed because for a youngster it would have been a good lesson to assemble the motor instead of just sticking it in the cowl. There ship models also featured alot of cool things like motorized props and turrets that swung back and forth. Definetly not high tech but very cool kits worth having for the right price. They can be had on ebay for cheap all of the time.

Hi Guys,
meanwhile opened box when I came home and to my (pleasant) surprise there is even a big tube Testors Cement, a brush and paint included! I like the “off type / odd type” model kits better instead of the middle of the road stuff
Upon closer insection it is actually mentioned there is cement / paint / brush inside (but hey, we men do not read the manual until the very last moment![:-^]). Also it said on the box it was from 1997 so kit is not as old as I expected it to be.
As far as I could see the quality of the planes is indeed not very good. It reminded me of the early Airfix kits.
Nevertheless, I have 3 planes that I did not yet have for about 5.50 dollar (and the cement and…) each so that isn’t too bad.
