Q?, Tamiya SAS jeep

I am slowly (very slowly) building Tamiya’s British Special Air Service Jeep.

The kit includes several jerry cans, but these are two handle types when I think we “Limeys” only ever used the three handle types during WW11.

So,am I wrong or have Tamiya got it dreadfully wrong.

Would really like some help on this and I just know i will get the help from this forum…cheers…Kenny

Hey Kenny,

This is a kit from the “bad old days” (early 70’s?) where the two-handled jerry cans were a result of Tamiya’s simplification of the moulds in making the jerry cans in two parts. They appear to be US pattern jerry cans which should have three handles, but don’t.

This was not the only kit in which Tamiya rendered the jerry cans as two-handled - they are so in many kits, including the earlier jerry can accessory set in which both US and German jerry cans were rendered with two handles.

The much later Allied Vehicle Accessories and German Jerry can sets render the jerry cans as two halves with a separate part for the three-bar handles (and a separate spout, IIRC).

Save yerself a few bucks and use sheet styrene & sprue to fix that… Cut the old handles off, and then improve by adding a piece of strip followed by some stretched sprue. Takes about 5 minutes per can…

Here’s one o’ mine from a Classic Tamiya …

After the glue sets up tight, then just a few swipes with the sanding stick is all that’s needed…

Sorry I have been so long in thanking you good people for your help.

My INTERNET connection went down a week ago and it has taken this long to get it fixed; so;;;

Once again thanks…cheers…kenny
