Q: Muzzle Flashes

I was wondering what would be a good way to re-create a muzzle flash for a Machine Gun (MG-42 to be exact) since my ideas are all crap.[V]

this one aint dead yet. Never thought of, or tried what you’re asking. Do you have a reference? Off the top of my head, how about a little glob of something like glue or epoxy around some sprue or wire. Paint it, detail it, drill out the muzzle and stick it in.

Adding to Wayne’s idea: Use clear epoxy etc. and paint the wire orange. It might show through darker in the center and lighter near the outside which might look good.

Hmm, well right now I’m trying wayne baker’s idea, Ill get pics of it up as soon as I can, and I’ll try claymore68’s idea too.

I once saw a diorama where a MG was being fired. The person used clear sprue and the large end was shaped like an elongated bulb. He painted it in yellow, red, orange, and blue. Even with the paint on it , it had that transparent look. The out come was very releastic looking. He told me he attatched it using thin wire, into the drilled out sprue and gun barrel.
