Pzkw. VI Ausf. E Sd.Kfz. 181 Tiger I Late Production

Hello All,

I just completed the most recent DML Tiger I, the Pzkw. VI Ausf. E Sd.Kfz. 181 Tiger I Late Production 3-in-1 Kit. I used the Cavalier Zimmerit set with it, as DML still hasn’t incorporated zimmerit into their Tiger molds. This one is modeled as the Command vehicle of 1./s.Pz.Abt. 505, Nowe Koszary 1944. Enjoy!

Beautiful man. Love that Cavalier, I too am sold on the stuff.

Thanks Tigerman! Yeah, ya know…I have a whole drawer full of Zimmerit tools, including the Lion Roar stuff (expensive). Now, I discover this Cavalier stuff for $17.95. It’s easy to use, flawless in finish…I’m gonna have to put my other stuff on EBay!

While looking at your Tiger I was reminded of something I have wondered about. [%-)] Is the track changing cable made of metal or rope?

Steel Cable…

[tup] That’s what I was thinking. Thanks.

hey man[:)]-- as impressive as your tiger is, your tristar panzer I at scalewarbirds just blows me away-- fantastic!!-- most excellent work dude-- tread[8D]

Steel cable??? [%-)] It should look like weathered steel then…that really looks like rope! Is there a reason you chose to paint it yellow?!

As far as the Tiger goes, it’s a really nice job! But is the gun barrel supposed to be a different color base coat than the hull/turret? Is it maybe a camera trick, or is the gun barrel a distinctly different yellowy shade than the rest of it? That kinda jumps out at me a bit…

And one last thing…LOVE your avatar!!![:P]

Beautiful model. Very nicely weathered and the tracks look good.

You never go wrong with Cavalier zim.

I have one question though, might not be important to you and it doesn’t take anything away from the quality of the model, but since you said:

I just have to ask, why have you put number “334” on it then ?? 334 would have been the 4th vehicle in 3rd platoon of 3./s.Pz.Abt 505. The command vehicle of 1./s.Pz.Abt 505 would have been either 100 or 101.

If you have reference that proves otherwise i would like to see it, or if accuracy is not important to you just disregard what i have written, it’s still a beautiful model.

Doog,

The yellow on the gun mantlet sleeve was a special marking/designator used by this particular s.Pzt.Abt and should be there just as it’s been portrayed. [;)]

That’s not what he meant. The Dunkelgelb basecoat on the barrel is quite bit more yellow than the basecoat on the rest of the vehicle.

I like your chipping, it looks good, as do the tracks.

I’d second TMN1’s question, why the 331 on the turret? sPzAbt 505 was known to use the company-platoon-vehicle numbering system, making the correct number for your tank 101.

The small tow cable on the left side was steel, why is it painted yellow? A 56-ton Tiger could definitely not be towed with a rope, no matter how strong it was[;)]

Also, it is a bit late to correct but the late Tigers of sPzAbt 505 were camouflaged with red brown, not green. I know the Dragon instructions show green as the correct color, but this certainly isn’t their first mistake[:(!]

Once again, you did a fine job on the Tiger, but future builds might benefit from a little more research before starting[:)]

Must be monitor settings, I don’t see any substantial shade difference on mine re: barrel vs. hull with the exception of the band under the 334. Maybe some slight weathering variations are present as well?

The small cable wasn’t intended for towing, [:D] it’s purpose was for changing of the tracks. Yes, the color had me wondering if it was modeled (intended) as “rope”.
