im using the conversion chart on paint4models.com and it seems they are off on some FS codes.
according to their chart, FS35189 is MM 2061 which is pru blue “raf” shouldn’t it be MM 2055?
seeing their chart my be off or isn’t updated, they have no match for FS36373 in MM.
does anyone know a good match for FS36373 in MM?
thanks!
Which scheme are you planning to paint it? Tri Color of Sea Blue and Intermediate Blue over White? Early War Blue Gray over Light Gray? ASW Dark Gull Gay over White? Or a Lend Lease scheme?
colors should be non specular sea blue on top, intermediate blue on the fuselage then light gray for the underside model master enamel numbers are mm1732/fs36495 for light gray, mm1720/fs35164 for intermediate blue, and mm1718/fs35042 for non specular sea blue. these will give you factory fresh colors so you’ll need to weather appropriatly for your version. i highly suggest getting squadron/signal book #6087 us navy aircraft camoflage & markings 1940-1945 its a great reference book you’ll use more than once, it has great tips on how to weather, navy & marine corps planes carried the same paint jobs with very little spot painting or repainting in theater. hope this helps!
nope, not doing the three tone sea camo. it’s a two tone of blue sea and gray.
markings are VB-132 “thumper”
OK, the early war scheme of Blue Gray over Light Gray. Gull Gray 36440 works for the light Gray, and MM makes the Blue Gray in their MM II Line up- #2055 in enamels, and #4847 in the Acrylic line.
hmmm…weird…xtradecal sheet says sea blue. i may be looking at something wrong on it.
anyways…
thanks stik!
If the aircraft is mid 1943 or before, the standard USN/USMC paint scheme was Blue Gray over Light Gray. The decal sheet is most likely mistaken. Unless it was a field applied scheme using the new ANA-607 Sea Blue color introduced in summer 1943 for the Tri-Color scheme. Which is possible. But having just had a quick look at the decal sheet directions online, it appears to be an early war Blue Gray over Light Gray.
And you’re very welcome Randy. I would also second the recommendation for the Squadron book mentioned above.
been a hard week at school. im starting to see things. HA!
thanks again stik!!!
