Puzzle for Airbrush Pros

Hello,

I tried to paint a spider web pattern on a tank earlier this evening, and I ran into considerable problems. The tank is probably 1/40 scale, so the pattern lines need to be pretty fine. But when I tried to go that fine, my airbrush clogged up. I had to open the brush up to unclog it, then continue painting.

Here’s what I was using:

Badger Model 200, siphon-fed, single action airbrush
Tamiya acrylic paint, thinned 1:1 with Tamiya thinner
Compressor.

I don’t know what pressure my compressor is running at. It’s a very cheap compressor given to me by a friend, so I don’t know much about it. There’s no moisture trap, no pressure guage, not even an on/off switch (I plug it in and it goes).

The puzzle is: is it my technique or my equipement. If it’s my technique, what can I do to fix it? If it’s my equipment, is it the airbrush or the compressor or both?

Thanks,

Phemur

Add some flow aid or a drop of liquid dish soap to your paint mix. Flow aid is easier to control, dish soap is cheaper.
