PT boat camo scheme 31/5P. Any data?

Does anybody know about a scheme 31/5P that used Navy Green (5-NG) and Ocean Green (5-OG)? It looks to have preceded the 31/20L scheme. I’ve seen some photos that look like the pattern was carried onto the decks of the Elco 90s and others where it looks like the deck is one color. Deck Green?

I have a photo of PT 495 that shows it with 31/20L and SO-3 radar and another that shows it with a different (simpler) scheme and in that photo it has SO radar.

I am thinking about back-dating my 596 kit to reflect PT-495 during the Battle of Surigoa Strait in Oct. '44.

Any insight?

Thanks,

Ed

I’ve uploaded a color photo of an unknown, late series 80’ ELCO carrying a variation of 31/5P to:

http://www.coastalforcesplans.com/id21.html

According to an ELCO document, this scheme was applied to thirteen squadrons and was a predecessor to 31/20L. 31/5P was sprayed on and had “soft” edges, unlike 31/20L which had “hard” edges.

While I have seen one or two photos in which the side pattern was carried over onto the deck of an 80’ ELCO, the prevalent scheme was solid Deck Green on both of these measures.

Thanks Al. Great info.

Here is a picture or 2 of the reworked SO mast. Thanks for the tips.
