Building a 48th scale Monogram Prowler, and I plan to go all out with this one. It’s gonna be a troooo test of my skills, as I plan on a lotta things I’ve never done before like scratchbuilding, AM goodies, preshading, washing and ahhhh what ever else I can think of.
Building a Black Panther from VMAQ-2, and it is gonna be anything BUT, “Can Do Easy!” I have the BB wingfold kit, which looks like it’s gonna be fun, because the wings are not located with tabs like the kit wings are. I may get creative and try to mill out tabs from the pour end, but I may have to pin it. Nowhere near tackling that yet. Still have to get the tub mounted up and the fuse put together.I also am going to run the CE corrections kit after I mill away all the stuff that don’t belong on a Prowler and I also have some Eduard PE on hand.
All my builds to date have been clean builds. this is gonna be a dirty bird…
Been in marshall for a few weeks…I lost the build bench to the laptop while the front room gets worked on. Gonna get back into it soon.
Ok, I washed the gear and the doors with black chalk. They are still a bit too dirty, but I will be able to clean them up some more later. That’s why I like chalk. if ya use oils or acryls, ya gotta get it right before ya walk away from it.
Modern day Q-2’s are Death Jesters, huh? OK…lemme ask you this…if I do a Panther…do I have to do a TPS? Never done a 3 color fuse before, and I’m trying to stay away from it if I can. I’ve seen Black Bunnies and Panthers with the black tail and cockpit surround that I like, and I was gonna do the Panther in the 2 color fuse scheme…light and dark ghost grey, unless it’s supposed to be a TPS. Then maybe I’ll do a DJ…ahhh I donno…I really like the black tail… I haven’t ordered the decals yet…I guess I should decide what I am doing first!!
Jeff…nice 'hog! I dod one of those…straight od green tho. I saw one that a guy did posted here on FSM…for the forestry service…red and white…sweet lookin.
Thanks for the words of encouragement, men! YES this is gonna be the most ambitious build I’ve ever undertaken. I may even have to try RBF tags!
Alot of TACAIR squadrons now will paint temporary paint schemes on there a/c. I was in F-14’s and we would go on dets. where we’d put a water based temporary camo on our a/c. It was a pain in the butt to get off once it got to the wash rack but none the less the stuff came off. I would say the scheme of the Prowler was a temp. scheme. Usually all Navy/Marine TACAIR a/c have the tac gray scheme: drk ghost gray, light ghost gray, etc. Of course if you’re making it look weathered, don’t forget we never seem to match the NADEP color it comes to us in. If you think that paint scheme looks good than do it. It’ll be different. One other thing to remember, if it ain’t leaking, it’s empty. The dirty the better. Our airplanes don’t belong to the Air Force, we actually use them. Last, I’ve got an A-6E waiting. I put the wing folds in with no real problems, however! I bought the Verlinden detail set instead of the BB. We’ll I dicked up the port intake for putting the crew ladder in. If you have to do the same thing, be careful. I FUBAR’d it pretty bad. Keep us posted.
Good job on the wash. I second what Navyao said. When I was out on the boat, there were catch cans under almost all the birds. Hard to believe they can fly with as much as they leak.[:)]
