Protar Paris-Dakar BMW 1000GS 1/9 scale FINISHED (PICS)

Hi,

after my last project (Harley Davidson WLA, /forums/894344/ShowPost.aspx ), i finally started on my next motorcycle; the BMW 1000GS wich won the Paris Dakar rally in 1985.

I won this rare kit from Protar on Ebay, it has a metal frame and some other metal parts.

The first thing i did was re-spoke the front wheel with thin brass wire because the original plastic spokes were to thick. I still need to remove some glue residue and it needs to be painted but the wheel is almost finished.

Meanwhile i started on the engine

The parts for one cilinder…

One cilinder mounted on the engine case

Test fit of the engine in the frame

The engine spraypainted

I damaged and scratced the engine guard a little bit

The next thing was to glue the two frame halfs together, sand al the seams and sprayed the frame gloss white.

The frame is highly detailed, even the welds are made

Next thing was to make a VIN code plate, i found a picture of the real VIN code plate from the original Dakar BMW, so i used that to print a decal from 6mm wide.

This is how far i am now, till next update…

Greetzz,

Karel

Looks great!!! Protar made a lot of nice motorbike… ANd their customer service was great!

I build some of theirs Harley.

I mounted the engine in the frame

Small update; the frame and engine are weathered, now i can continue with building up the bike.

Karel

thats some great looking work!

Your work on this bike is top shelf! Protar kits are sweet aren’t they?

I did the relacing deal on some dirt bike rims, I used styrene rod. I like your use of brass rod better.

Keep us posted on your progress, will ya’

Thanks.

The carburetors are finished.

Because i have pictures from the original carbs, i could add some extra details.

Greetz,

Karel

Carburator intake manifolds, i put some extra detail in them.

Karel

Nice job on the mainfold!

All carburetor parts including the fuel lines and filters are ready.

I scratched the fuel filters, because the filters in the kit were from solid plasic.

Karel

Carbs installed…

Karel

The oil cooler and lines are ready.

Karel

Karel,

I love the bike and the build you are doing a fantastic job on it. I love the weathering as most people just paint it out of the box and never weather them unless its military, for the weathering did you use just pastels or model pigments?

Darren

Karel,

Actually was looking at all your detail work on this beauty and man you are good!!! Love the work and will be following this one till its finished!!!

Impressive work!!!

Thanks Darren and Brizio,

this is a rally bike so it MUST be dirty…[:D]

I use a combination of Tamiya and MIG pastels, and enamels and sometimes a little bit oil paint.

Karel

Small update; the exhaust and some other parts are finished and mounted.

Karel

Cool job again!!! Do you think to make a diorama with it?

Things might change, but for now thats not the plan.

Lower legs from the frontfork are ready

Brake caliper

And the legs
