Proof of Insanity

No, I didn’t go out and buy a Dora! [:D]

But I’ve decided that my next project will be an “involved” one. I’m going to tackle a Flakpanzer 38(t) “Gepard” build using the following:

Alan “Gepard” kit #018

Tristar Flak 38 kit #010

ModelKasten Tracks #SK30

Eduard Detail Flakpanzer PE Set #35627

Voyager Flak 38 Detail PE Set #35041

ModelKasten 38(t) Replacement Drive Sprocket and Idler Wheels #A9

Armorscale 2.0cm Flakrohr 1.3m 38 barrel #B35-048

Azimut Flakpanzer 38(t) hull and upgrade resin set #35359

This will by far be the most comprehensive use of AM stuff on a build that I’ve done to date and I’m looking forward to it…but I showed the pile of stuff to my wife and she just smiled and said she loved me anyway. [:D]

Crikey, I’d hate to do the math on all that! You must really love the subject, for that is more than a few kits. You must also have an understanding spouse too. Whew, good luck on this build.

From another thread it sounded as though you did go and buy the Dora. No?

First of all, your wife is awesome and comprehensive. Second, I have a Gepard in the stash along with the Eduard PE for the kit and fenders. So I will be reading your buid very attentively. Your Panzer III build was so good! I know this one will turn out awesome too and I will probably base mine on it.

love the subject and the base kit is one on my list so i will definatly be following this build bill , do you have plans for the alan tracks and sprockets and if not would you be intersted in selling them if so drop me a email.

Well at least you didn’t buy the DORA. Good luck, I personally love using AM products, it always adds excitment to what was in the kit box.

Terry.

It started out with a $20 kit from Alan and just started adding up from there. [:D] I, too, don’t want to do the math on everything that will be added to it…I’m afraid of the total. [:O] It’s like the Elefant, I’ve been slowly collecting stuff for this one for a while until it reached its “critical mass” so to speak. As for my wife, she’s very supportive of my insanity, errr, hobby. [;)] She would’ve supported my purchase of the Dora but I opted out at the last moment.

Ron,

As near as I can tell, the kit supplied tracks, sprockets, wheels, etc. are the same set as that sold by Maquette, and at first glance some of the roadwheels might not be serviceable, have to look more closely. I’ve got 2 of the Maquette wheels/tracks sets in the stash already, so if you want these after the build’s complete and I know what is/isn’t left over, I’d be happy to send them your way.

thanks bill i appreciate it i plan on getting a copy of the old italeri marder for my spg collection the same one eric is building in the italeri gb but i dont like italeri vinyl tracks but dont want to spend a fortune on aftermarket and i have used the old maquette/alan tracks on the 140/1 and they wernt that terrible in fact once on looked quite decent and i beleive the kit road wheels will be fine i only mentioned the drive sprocket in case the italeri one doesnt fit the tracks so if you dont use them i would be happy to buy them from you. as i said this build is of special interest to me so im really interested in how this goes and you didnt have to do this to prove you are insane,we already knew ;).

I used them when I built the Alan Grille M and they do work well, just a little bit of cleanup as usual with indys. I share your wariness around Italeri vinyl tracks, ironically enough the reason I had the MKs was to replace the ones on the Italeri 38(t) but Tristar rendered that exercise pointless. [:)]

We are all insane, it’s just a question of degree and acceptance vs. denial. [:D]

start with that alan kit and make all the extra parts from scratch, including all the etched brass, and drill out ever track link to make your own functional tracks, then we’ll talk about insanity.

incidentally, i think i actually accidentally persuaded a guy at work to buy the dora kit. he pre-ordered it but is already thinking of selling the thing.

I’ve done that before but am cured now. [:O)]
