Promodeler 1/48 F-84G Thunderjet " Lil Butch "

Thanks everyone for the feedback & generous comments.

Daniel, I first primed with Floquil Grey Primer. Once satisfied with the seam lines, I lightly sanded & painted it overall Floquil Engine Black. After curing, I gave it a few light coats of Future for a gloss finish. After curing again, I sprayed it with Alclad2 Aluminum, then masked & sprayed a few panels with Alclad2 Dark Aluminum. Kind of a round about way of getting there. Many like to use the Alclad2 Gloss Black Primer, but I didn’t have any at the time of painting. Swanny uses Krylon Gloss Black Primer, decanted from a spray can & airbrushed, but that hasn’t worked well for me.

This came too late to help Rick, but as his beautifully flawless build shows, he didn’t need any extra help. But for those of us who do, in the September issue of Combat Aircraft, a British mag that can be had at well-stocked news stands, there is a color-photo-packed article about the striped F-84G’s of the three squadrons of the 49th fighter group. The red stripes were from the 9th FBS, the 8th FBS sported yellow stripes, and the 7th FBS had black stripes. The photos are spectacular for their color and detail, and there are even closeups of armament and mounts, primarily fat dumb bombs and five-inch rockets, with their OD warheads and ADC gray bodies. They also show the JATO bottles mounted to the F-84s. Unlike most of these magazines, this one is only 4.95, and worth the price. I can no longer handle paying ten bucks a month for Scale Aircraft Modeling, one of my favorite mags (after FSM, of course[;)]).
Tom

I read in somewhere (Detail & Scale??) that the ProModeler F-84 is actually more accurate in its outline than the Tamiya kit! When I bought my F-84 (the kit…not the actual plane) it was reading that bit of info which made me put down the Tamiya kit and pick up the ProModeler.

Eric

PS. Rick! What a great job you did on the model! I covered my first one in BMF and I think it looks…okay. I have another ProModeler F-84 under my workbench that I can’t wait ot finish with Alclad! If mine turns out even half as good as yours then I’ll be happy.

Tom, I have that issue of Combat Aircraft & it is indeed as you say.

Eric, Thanks for the comments. I have no idea which kit is more accurate, but I think the Tamiya kit must be a little larger in some dimensions, especially the wing tanks.
