ProMod or Acadmey/Minicraft P-47N?

Hi everyone!

I was wondering what people thought regarding the P-47N kits. I know that ProModeler and Acad/Min did versions of them but I was wondering if anyone had experience with either or both of them. Or, for that matter, any other manufacturer. I’m really looking for a nice 1/48 version.

Also, I know the ProModeler version is out of production. Anyone know where I can get my hands on one? I checked ebay but no such luck.

Thanks!

Eric

Neither kit is perfect, but the Academy kit gets better reviews. I haven’t built the Promodeler kit, but I have built the Academy. Weakest point is the interior, so if you can get a cockpit replacement, I would do it. I built mine using the True Details set from Squadron.

I have the ProMod kit but have not built it yet. From What I’ve been told by hardcore P-47 enthusiasts is that to get the most accurate P-47N you need to combine elements of both the Academy and the ProMod kits. Wings from one, fuselage from the other.

Thanks for the insight, gang! RJK, I’ve heard that the Academy kit has a nice gap in front of the instrument console that needs to be blocked off. Did the aftermarket cockpit resolve that issue?

Aurora-7, YIKES! I don’t think I’d have the time nor desire to combine two kits. LOL! I barely have time to do much kit building anymore due to family obligations so I was hoping to, let’s put it this way, find the best of the two evils. Maybe it’s time to say my prayers and ask Him for Accurate Miniatures to come out with a P-47N.

Thanks for the input!

Eric

Go to swanny’s site he has a build up of the Acadamy P-47N

echolmberg,

I’ve got the ProModeler P-47N if you want it. Just e-mail me at marinesgt@sbcglobal.net to work out the details.

I’ve got both. The Academy has some missing details like the air vent and camera ports on the stbd wing root. Mostly it looks just fine, though.

The ProModeler one has all the details, but it has the same incorrect cowling with the stepped-down cowl ring that plagues Monogram’s earlier P-47 kits. Plus the plastic seems rather soft.

Here’s my Academy Jug in my dad’s colors (I haven’t built the Pro kit yet) :

John, that is a beautiful job on the P-47N. Great work.
