Those are some great looking models! I wish I could build models as nice as yours. What Tiger I kit is that? I bought the new Tiger I (Int) 3 in 1 at my Hobby Lobby this week and it looks to be a great kit!
Nice work Alex[tup], hope mine turns even half that good, buildin’ the Tamiya Aus. E, going to try weathering 4 the 1st time[:-^]. U did a really awesome job on the mud, sure wud like to no how u did it[bow]!!
William, I did the weathering using a special technique, here it is copied from another thread I posted it in
Well, are there any supersoft dirt spots around where you live? If so do the following:
Take some and put it in a bottle with a plastic cap
Poke three holes in that cap
For just dust, simply pour the dirt over the model in big piles everywhere and brush it off, repeat until result desired is reached
For a dirty look, or to make it look like it has been getting dirt splashed on it, do this:
Take some flat coat(from a bottle is nessacary),this will act as an adhesive for the dirt, and brush it all over the horizontal spots of the model
Now pour on the dirt in big piles, brush it off immediatley, when the flatcoat is dry, the brush strokes will show up, leaving the take looking like it has been traveling, so brush the dirt in the correct direction that the dirt has been traveling on the tank, because like I said, you may not see it when the flatcoat is still wet, but when dry, dirt “streak marks” will show up in the direction you brushed it off
Now for dirt buildup:
Start by putting on the flatcoat in the areas where dirt would build up(I.E. fenders, front glacis, bottom of rear glacis…)
Now put dirt on again over the flatcoat
Brush the dirt very LIGHTLY in the direction it would be splashed onto the tank(exceptions would be the rear glacis ONLY)
For dirt on the tracks simply repeat the flatcoat method described above
This method is pretty much permanent(I tried to get some off with water…)so practice on a peice of painted plastic first!
I also used a stipling motion to get the effect seen on the vertical sides of my tiger 1
This is pretty much a weathering technique that I made up as I went along, and I have perfected it since I started doing it, it is actually very, very easy.
Thanks all for the comments, I abandoned the Sd.Kf.z 251/22 because it was becoming to difficult, I hated the two peice style track and it being teeny weeny, and I had some fit problems with the upper hull to lower hulll conection, and I used superglue (this was after it was painted because I took it apart to redo some of the interior)
O.k. Alex, thx alot big guy[8D]. Hopefully I will have some pics to show u soon of my Tiguh(sry, but I luv the way Oddball says it, so thats how I always say it[(-D]), I might show u b4 I do the mudding cuz there will be alot of dry time involved, like I say, I am going to try weathering 4 the 1st time and going to use artist oil paints and so it will be awhile b4 I can dull coat it so I am told. Anyhoo Alex, I agree with MBT70[bow]!
the Tiger looks good man! Only one thing though, maybe it’s the pics? To me the Panzer Grey looks too light, it almost looks like you did a winter cam over the grey? I dunno, that’s just my Opinion, but I think it does look good! Nice build man!
tomzag,I have this old bottle of Rustall, and the stuff in the bottom is kind of thick, so when I put it on the gunshield,it came out sort of gooey, but it gave me a great result[:D]
Tigerman the tracks you have a problem with, are they the DS ones from Dragon?
If so I also had a problem with them, some of the teeth were bent (when they were
packed by Dragon).
Tgiertankman,
could you give detailed painting procedure of 251/22. I really like that rusty effects. I never tried Rustall, please give detailed info. I do not believe you just used brush. l neverr get such result by brush. I have to use airbrush.
thankd,om
