Progress on the 1/100 scale Tieren ground type another UPDATE 6-20-10

Well everything is all together and ready for the bath then some primer. I added reactive armor blocks from some Academy M60 kits and Marine Corps style smoke dischargers from a Tamiya Abrams kit. I am considering scratching another backpack using some leftover 1/35 tank guns. Well here it is. Think I am going to paint it a digital woodland camo scheme. what do you guys think?

You go boy. Am glad to see you here posting your Gunpla APC w/attitude. Look forward to more of this most excellent build. Thanks for sharing your talents.[:D[

Pretty cool. The smoke launchers are a nice touch.

Be careful w/ camo patterns on these humanoid mechs. I’ve found that too strong a contrast betweeen the colors can wash out all the cool little details you’ve put on it. If they’re not too contrasting however, the results can be awesome.

But, yeah. I’d like to see some digital action here. [H]

Well heres the progress from the past three nights. Got this bad boy primed then a base coat of Model Master Green Zinc Chromate. Sprayed some on scrap plastic so I can experiment with the camo first.

Nice color for a MFS. I can not wait to see what you do next. Gary Owen!!! [H]

agreed on camo schemes on mechs.

I tried doing a semi digital on my Sandrock Custom and it worked to a point. I kept the pattern VERY broad, more like stripes made up of dots. take photos and if you can superimpose the pattern in photoshop play around with it before commmitting it to too much paint. You may find you do not like it as well, or want to change colors.

Also, i found that when taking pics of digital paint…with a digital camera…you get some rather intersting effects. Same goes for models on display on digital cloth…my helos tended to blend in!!!

Hey modelbuilder, after our talk today and the ideas we threw around, I believe that this Tieren Ground Type will be the next one I purchase. I liked how you said you came up w/the color too. Looking forward to the photos. [proplr]

I will have to show you some stuff I found on the net. In the Gundam world there is a Antiaircraft version of this. I may have to buy a few more of these monsters. Working on the camo now. Decided on a modified SEA camo in digital pattern. Waiting on the first color on the test piece to dry now.

Well here are some photos of my test of digital SEA camo. I spayed tan and lightened medium green over the green zinc. What do you guys think?

I like the pattern, very anti-radar, but looks very busy @ same time. I like the camo but for me I would apply to the armored areas/shields and leave the rest in the basic zinc color. But that is just my [2cnts] worth. I do very much like the color combination for this MFS. Look forward to more on this most excellent build. [Y]

Just a foot note on this block type camo. While assigned to a ACR that patrolled the HOF border, we applied for the 1st time as I am aware anywhere by any country a random three color block camo to the M60A1’s we patrolled with. This was officially called Dule-tex Pattern. The idea @ the time was to confuse and give off a broken radar return as reflected by the camo pattern as worn by the Squadrons vehicles. This included all vehicles assigned to the ACR in the FRG @ that time. This was in the very late 70’s. I have watched and noticed every time this pattern surfaced on another countries vehicles, primarily tanks: and I began to notice that apparently this worked by the number of countries that adopted this camo pattern to their vehicles. And no this was not a take on the waning days of the Third Reich’s tree camo pattern which was totally different. Been there, done it! just a little history about this much used camo pattern now seen. And here is a question for you? You are a tank on the battle field and two targets present themselves to you, 1st your enemy’s tank and a enemy ground soldier with a large suit case. Which one is the biggest threat?[-)][-)]

This pattern is proving to be difficult on the complex shapes of the Tieren. Back to the drawing board.

And what did the drawing board say?[*-)]

Well here is this weekends efforts and the products of a return to the drawing board. I repainted my feeble attempt at digital camo then darkened the mixture and sprayed around all of the edges and various spots on the armor. To add visual interest I chose Panzer Afrika Sand Grey for the joints, mid torso, and bottom of feet. Looks kinda Marines dont ya think. That was not the intention. As you can see in the background the weapons have been painted and are drying. Also added a Missile Counter Measure Device to the left shoulder. This is from the same Abrams kit as the smoke dischargers. Ive really enjoyed this kit and plan on building several more, maybe an AA version, Heavy assault version, and maybe even and engineer version. I have attached a pic of another builders Tieren and was wondering if anyone can tell me which kits have that cool mini gun in them.

Man this is turning out to be one bad, watch your mouth. lol I really like you decided to stay w/the base color as the main color and the choice for the joints was dead on. I agree, you get a Marine feel for the whole effect. I think I like this better than a camo pattern. Have seen your magic you work on tanks, can not wait to see you weather this bad boy. The addition of the missile counter measure was just the final touch needed to give this walking tank the finishing touch! [:D[

[t$t] Great job! The light green makes me think that that Tieren of yours is like a ‘shore patrol’ or base security unit. The tan joint is something I’d have never thought of, and looks awesome.

The reactive armor and smoke grenades add a unique touch to it, which adds to the ‘base security’ look.

You’re right-that minigun sure is sweet, but no Gundam kit that I am aware of comes with a minigun of that type. There was a kit of one of the RX-78 varients that came with a larger minigun, but it wouldn’t be usable on a Tieren, since it attaches to the Gundam’s back. Wish I could be more help.

OK, where is the next photo of this bad boy? [:(]

Hey Modelbuilder, check out RX-78-5, I do believe that is a Gatling gun the MFS is carrying. But as you and I have discussed, good luck finding a 1/100 Tieren. The only one I have found is in Hong Kong w/a high ship rate. I like the recovery version we talked about. Looking forward to more photos…[8-|]

Well finally got back to work on the Tieren after a few days away. Added some battle damage and Future in prep for my washes.
