I usually use Tamiya acrylics (which I absolutely love), but some of the colors were only available through Testor’s ModelMaster Acryl line of paints. The consistency of the paint is very watery and I have had difficulty getting it to spray correctly.
Has anyone else had this problem with these paints? What can I do to help it? How to thicken the paint or should I lower/raise the PSI on the airbrush compressor?
I use both the Tamiya and the Model Master lines of paint but still prefer the Tamiya myself. What I find with Model Master is that you really have to stir these paints up well, a lot of the pigment settles to the bottom of the bottle when compared with Tamiya colours. But I’ve never seen it watery after stirring, as a matter of fact it’s usually too thick.
Thanks much, Rob! Testors also says to use only Model Master Acryl Thinner (not water) to thin the paints. Anyone have another recommendation about cheaper thinners to use with the Model Master Acryls?
I use the Acryl thinner… but Isopropal Alcohol (rubbing alcohol) works well too!
You do have to be carefull… some of the Acryl paints are pre-thinned and some aren’t. The label will say it’s ready of air-brushing if it is already thinned…
