I’ve got a problem, I just used Futures to seel in the decals on my 1/72 Corsair, the models paints have been dry for well over three months and I know I allowed at least a four day gap between coats, but the Future made a “smear” under the dullcoat, why and is there any way to fix it???[V]
I forgot to mention, I hand painted everything, I can’t airbrush because I do that in my garage, and it’s a LITTLE COLD up here in Ohio!!!
Dullcoat is lacquer based and brushing it on is asking for trouble.
I would either buy an acrylic dull coat or buy a can of flat clear spray paint.

Problem being, I can’t spary paint until spring. But the problem wasn’t in the brushing, it was like there was a “smear” under it, where the future was. I think I might have neglected to cover the whole surface with it and that most likely caused the “bump”???
Not to fear, you can fix this! You’ll have to remove the finishes in layers, first being the Dullcote. To remove the Testors Dullcote, wet a lint free cloth or old T-shirt with rubbing alcohol and wipe the offending area until the Future layer is revealed…go gently so as not to rub into the paint layer. Let the surface dry completely then very gently wipe the Future smeared area with a soft cloth moistened with windex. If not carefull the Windex can stripp the Future layer clean down to the paint. Next lightly, and gently sand the area with 400 and 600 grits to level the surface and wipe the sanded area with a tack cloth to remove all traces of dust. Ok, next once the smear is smoothed and wiped away its time to restore the Future and Dullcote layers. Airbrush the Future in thin coats to build up the layer, overlaping the surrounding areas to help level it and blend in. After the Future has cured for approx. 48 hours, airbrush a few light coats of Testors Dullcote. Thats all there is too it- Happy modeling!
Ditch the Testors Dull Coat and get Polly Scale Clear Flat - much safer and smells better too.
Swanny,
Do you have any experience with the Pactra Acrylic Enamel flat clear?
It says water wash-up on the jar and it is number A48.
I have had it several years and never tried it.
Thanks
Mike
Hey Mike,
Pactra clear flat is excellent! It thins with rubbing alcohol or distilled water, and airbrushes wonderfully. When dry it cures to a nice scale satin sheen. Pactra cleans up nicely with Windex or Rubbing alcohol from the airbrush and paint brushes unlike the super-fast drying Testors Acryl. Sorry Swanny, had to pipe in here, I love Pactra Acylics. I’ve been using them for 10 years; now if only their acrylic color range was as exstensive as the Testor MM FS range…it would be an awesome replacement for the Testors Acryl, IMHO.
Thanks Greg.
I appreciate that positive report my friend. [;)]

I can’t find Pactra Acrylics anymore. Did Testors replace the Pactra acrylic line with MM Acryl? I only have a little bit of Pactra A48 left. It’s great stuff. I use it for brushing too.
