Hi all,
I need advice for a problem I am having with my Iwata Eclypse HP-CS airbrush. I have had it for a few months now and it has always worked flawlessly. I clean it carefully every time I use it, dismountling it completely. Since a few days, I have a nozzle clogging everytime I start spraying.. that is I can’t even start painting. I mean, I put the thinned paint in the cup and when I pull the trigger only air is flowing through the nozzle, no paint at all. I have to reclean again the nozzle with the tool, and then everything goes well… until next time … and then again.. same story..
What can be the cause for this ? Any suggestion is more than welcome.
Thanks
Ezio
You need to take the brass nozzle out and make sure it is absolutely clean.
What paint are you spraying, some acrylics are touchy maybe your paint mix?
I always take the brass nozzle out and clean it.
I use Tamiya acrylics with mr. Color levelling thinner at 1:1,5 thin ratio (paint to thinner).
Well, you got me,I have the same brush, that’s my Tamiya mix too.
I helped someone who had a similar problem. After stripping the airbrush down to every component that could be dismantled and cleaned, it was the part labeled 1 in Veedub’s posted diagram, the crown guard. It had some dried bits of paint I could not see. I was ready to give up and told my friend, well we’ve looked at everything, but I can’t seem to find the problem. Maybe we try cleaning the crown guard. So I threw it into some thinner and found the dried paint when I was drying it off. The airbrush then worked perfectly fine.
Lesson learned - clean everything.
Thanks for all your advices and feedbacks, but the strange thing here is that I have cleaned it dismantling everything everytime I have used it so far, every single time. All the parts look shiny and clean, yet all of a sudden I have started to have this problem. The needle seems ok and as far as I can see there is no evident damage to the nozzle… this is puzzling me..
Just curious - how are you cleaning the nozzle? All it takes is one microscopic flake of paint to clog it. I’ve had (one) of my Eclipse’s for 20+ years and only replaced the nozzle once. Try using some lacquer thinner and gently push your needle back and forth in the nozzle and see if anything comes out. You’d be amazed at what gets trapped inside the brass fitting.
I remove the nozzle cover, the brass nozzle and the needle. Put the nozzle cover and the nozzle in a cup with mr. Color levelling thinner. Carefully clean the needle. Clean the nozzle cover with a brush and the nozzle with the reamer tool. Then I clean the channel between the cup and the nozzle until it is completely clean… then reassemble everything and make a final spray with a half cup of thinner.
I think it is pretty standard deep cleaning.
I know this is a few months old but curious as to if the issue was solved, and also to add that i use a ultrasonic cleaner and it works fantastic for air bush cleaning.
