Finished this one last month. Nice kit, really enjoyed building this one. Finish is Either Floquil bright silver, or old silver, I can’t remember! Followed up by masking some random panels, and shooting different shades of Alclad for some variation. Decals are mainly from an aeromaster sheet, with some stenciling from the Pro-Modeler sheet.
Charlie, Excellent work [tup] I like the look of that finish. Very subtle tones in the panel shading and the decals are well done, like espins said. Keep it up. Can’t wait to see the second one you post [:D]
Very nice Charlie. Very nice. I have a few of those kits but haven’t been able to get to them yet. How long did that take you to finish and what Aeromaster sheet did you wind up using. Very nicely done. Very nicely done.
I was wrong, it’s not a aeromaster sheet, but an eagle strike sheet (got them mixed up). Its sheet # 48-213 USAFE F-84 Pt 1.
This is a really nice building kit. Almost no fit problems, very, very little filler used. This one probably took about 2 months, on and off. All the painting was done in a day. The decaling took forever it seems…all those stencils!
It looks like you’ve really done a good job. I am a little curious as to why you chose to not use Alclad for the entire finish?, anyway I like your build. One side note for the future Charlie. The F84 G should have the reinforced cockpit frame painted in airforce gray. The reinforcement strips were not metal, but fiber glass molded into the perspex. The earlier versions of the aircraft had issues with the canopy “shattering” at altitude. Should look something like this:
Very nice, clean build Charlie! I’ve seen some NMF finishes using Floquil silvers and the results look as good as Alclad to me. Did you just mask around some panels and shoot the Alclad directly unto the Floquil for the random panel shading, or did you apply some type of primer as a barrier between the Floquil and the Alclad?

Hi Steve,
I prefer floquil for bare metal surfaces. Thinned with lacquer thinner, it dries very hard, very fast. I like the look better. I also find that the kit doesn’t need as much “prep/scratch free” surface work prior to its application.
Yeah, I caught the frame thing after taking all the masks off…I’ll get it next time.
