I found that my Tamiya primer did not apparently adhere to my resin train models, even after washing. I will give the cleaning another shot, but am also wondering if I can’t use e.g. Rustoleum primer.
Will be using vallejo paints over the primer, hand-brushing.

You only have to worry about acrylic paints applied over an acrylic primer,you should be ok on that,I can’t vouch for Rustoleum on resin though.

I have used Rustoleum successfully on a resin car model. I used flat black primer on the engine bay and chassis. Looks like The hood and body have a gray primer, I don’t recall whether it was Rustoleum or Testor’s primer. Looks like the Rustoleum gray which is darker than the Testor’s. Can you try a test spot?

I use Rust-Oleum and Krylon both on resin as a primer without any issues. Several different types of resin even.

Immersing parts seems to soften some of them.
I’m trying Army Painter spray primer now.
