Does anyone have a recomendation for a good primer for 1/18 scale diecast? I have been having serious issues with primers not sticking. After the 1st couple failed attempts with black and gray primers I purchased some self etching primer from the auto parts store but the stuff still just won’t stick, even after roughing up with 320 grit. The self etching primer is Dupli-color.
I would suggest Tamiya Liquid Surface Primer. That stuff sticks to everything!!! Glass, metal, plastic, resin… it comes in rattle cans or jars for thinning in airbrush use.
For priming metal, I would stick to a primer intended for metal. I usually use automotive primer, though Rustoleum primer does seem to work pretty well. Try an auto parts store. I usually use Duplicolor for metal.
I think you may have to use a metal etching and cleaning compound on it . I sometimes had to do that to real cars in some spots . For instance on the Quarter panel where it joins the roof .
They changed from real lead to the other stuff and Ditzler ( the good stuff ) wouldn’t stick unless I did that !
